The current years are based on a Monk in 525 guessing that Jesus was born 753 years after the Rome was build and counting backwards to create the Anno Domini (roughly After Christ). There is a variety of arguments about when Jesus was really born, but most agree that is was between 6 and 3 BC. One way to place it around 4 BC is because if Herod, mentioned in the Gospels, died in 3 BC, then Jesus couldn't have been born any later than that. Josephus mentions an eclipse around the time of Herod's death that can be used to fairly accurately place his time of death.

The calendar that we use today was not in existence at the time of Jesus' birth. Rather they would give the dates by listing who was the ruler at the time an event happened. According to the Gospels, at the time Jesus was born, Augustus was ruling in Rome, Herod in Galilee, and Cyrenius.
As Cyrenius came to power in 6BC, and Herod died in 4 BC, the birth of Jesus had to have been between those two years. The actual date is not recorded in scripture.
In the Middle Ages, at attempt was made to determine the year of Jesus' birth, resulting in the year "1AD" as the year they believed it happened (There is no year "0"). But they did not have all the historical records that we have today to use to determine the date. So they appear to have "missed" by 4-6 years.

Though many think the man jesus was born in the year "0", I have also heard the possibility it was actually up to the 6bc. No one really knows exactly. There were not birth certificates during those time.
The notion that he was divine was "born" throughtout the years following his death. It was officially sanctioned that he was divine under Constantine in the 4th century. Even then, Constantine remained a pagan.

The tradition is year 1 A.D. (Our calender does not contain a year 0) But it is widely accepted that the monk who calculated our current calendar made an error of4-8 years. Mot Biblical historians believe he was born 4-8 BCE

but based on any other calender, it could be whatever 2007 years ago would be in that calender
