And if so, what could I say? We work in IT and our department only had four people in it. He had hired on as a senior programmer but he wasn't keeping up. He's engaged. We had some problems, weren't the best of friends, but I don't wish him any ill will.

I was told that guests shouldn't wear red outfits to weddings but no one can tell me why. Is it a superstition or etiquette or what?

There's a few people who I knew five or ten years ago at work, but they aren't people I'm comfortable around and never had personal friendships with them. I just knew them at work. I will be in a situation soon where I will be seeing many of them for the first time in years (in a meeting). I'm quite sure a few of them will ask me for my personal phone number so "we can get together", but I don't want to share that info with them or get together. What is the least hurtful, socially correct way to avoid giving them my phone number, e-mail, address, and to decline an invitation I don't want to accept? I'm not a bad person. I just have a circle of friends that I'm compatible with and these are not people like that. But I don't wish them harm.

If women can wear hats in the workplace, and men can't, isn't that discrimination? If some employers allow some employees to wear kufis indoors because of religion, and don't allow everyone the opportunity to wear them, isn't that discrimination?
I think everyone should be allowed to wear hats or kufis. Or nobody should be able to wear hats or kufis. That is the only way to stop this discrimination in the workplace, training environment, or any inside facility.
Please give your opinion and ask others what they think about it. If you have the guts, ask your Human Resource Department what is their policy on this issue?

Okay, so I'm the maid of honor in my sisters wedding (May 2007) and have a question about the shower. She's been married before, he has a house so they don't really "need" anything...my sister says what they REALLY want is for the shower guests to contribute to the honeymoon expenses in place of gifts. My question, how do I handle this? I'm thinking that the only way to really do this is to mention it in the (couple) shower invitation, but what's the "correct" way to do that? Thoughts / advice--thanks so much.

Heres the dilemna:A guy at work befreinded me,so we been hanging out for lunch etc at work. He's a good guy, and has no political ambition for the friendship. We have similar interests, and have the same outlook on life. No, we aren't queer(hes got a hotty GF assa matter of fact.) Anyway,... when we greet and part company we shake hands. He has got the sweatiest palms of anyone i've ever known! I needa towel after we shake hands its that bad. I wanna casually rub my pantleg to dry my hand out ,but its too obvious. He's a good guy;I don't want to lose his friendship,or offend him.I think its because he has a very high metabolism, he's into extreme sports.

It is so pathetic, you answer a question in the most truthful way and the slightest thing can set these question askers off and report you for abuse. What do we have to walk around america tip toeing over everyones feelings. The sad thing is you get reported for abuse even when you did not say anything mean. If people do not like freedom of speech then dont ask questions here.

I'd made up personal rules, such as waiting for people to step out before you step in, and the person nearest the door exits first, based on the fact that it pisses me off when people don't do this. Are these general rules or am I just being strict?

When I was still at school I once licked my plate clean in the Dinner Hall in front of everybody (I forgot i was at school and not at home) -to my horror, I put my plate down and everyone was staring at me, eyes wide, jaws ajar!!!

My manners have improved since, you'll be pleased to know, but I think the event has scarred me emotionally for life. Even to this day I can't eat tomato soup in the company of strangers.....

What's the best insult or threat that you're saving up for the right occasion? (which can be posted legally on a public forum, obviously)

I was watching a film with Clint Eastwood the other day and one guy said to the other "I'll kick you so hard that you'll be wearing your a s s as a hat"

I'm remembering it for someone who really p*sses me off.... Feel free to use it yourselves though!

I just purchased this home not too long ago and this neighbor complained to me about noise coming from my home at night, so I told her I would work on it and now I just close my windows and she says that has helped. But NOW she's saying that at night time could we park our car in the back by the garage instead of by our door (which is more convenient for us) because she can hear doors slamming and it wakes her up. I think that she is being very unreasonable because we don't SLAM the doors we close them regulary just like anyone else. She has approached my mom one morning about this saying "I have told you about the slamming doors before you are disturbing the whole neighborhood if this keeps up it is going to be trouble" she yelled all this through her window. Should I agree to just park in the back by the garage and let her have her way? When the winter time comes it's gonna be headache having to park back there especially with my young children.
