I am in total awe of the number of people who constantly butcher the English language and it drives me crazy. It goes to show how lazy we have become as a society. We often accept it without correcting the offending party, so it will continue as long as we continue to accept it.
And to those of you who choose to answer questions on this website with comments like "There are more important things to worry about.", get off your high horses please. This website is about questions and answers, not preaching what a person should wonder about.

I used to be mortified by poor spelling in written communications. It certainly speaks volumes on the perpetrator's education - or lack thereof. However, not all schools have the same standards. Not all students have literate parents to help them.
It boils down to overcrowded schools, underpaid teachers and little - if any - parental involvement with their child's education.
Spell-check is only good for people who really CAN spell and will recognize their error with suggestions from the spell checker. But there are words that don't look anything like what they sound. If you don't know how to spell the certain words, how would you know if the spell-checker was giving you the correct spelling? I give you "sugar" and "psychotic" as prime examples of words that can't be sounded out. If they are not on a spelling lesson. And let's face it, we all know about schools that turn a blind eye to overall education of a star athlete... That mess continues.
I'm not making excuses for people who use single letters as words such as "b" for "be" or "n" for "and" or "in," but rather, you have to blame the school to some point and the parents for the rest of it.
And let's not forget that some people here are youngsters trying to get help with everything except grammar, english and spelling. I applaud them for knowing where to get answers if their parents can't help them - but also wonder why they don't know how to use Google if they have a computor.
You and I both know what kind of grades we would be giving these people if we were their teachers. But we aren't their teachers. We are people with experiences to share with newcomers to a variety of subjects.
What irritates me more than misspelled words are those that are asking questions about inhumane treatment of animals such as the booger that asked "How long should I microwave my puppy for peeing on my bed?" These are the people I worry about. There are so many larger issues than poor spelling and when you look at it that way, the poor spelling issue disappears completely.

You need to realize there are a lot of kids on Q/A. Sometimes yes people just don't take the time to use spell check. But if you don't like the way someone wrote their question the skip it and move on. This Spelling question has been asked so much and it doesn't change anything move on. To answer your question it's not hard. People are lazy, some just don't know how to spell and then their our the children that ask questions to. Please chill and remember it's a fun place to get together meet people and ask and answer your questions. If that is the major complaint then I think we are doing pretty good.............

Over 50% of all answers in ALL categories are misspelled. Makes you wonder about our school system? How can the teachers grade papers? Do the kids spell like this when doing homework? It makes you wonder how lazy people are, too? They can't hit the spell check??????????????

Yes, I agree that misspelled words are annoying, they should use the check spelling button. Sometimes people use the internet spelling which is very confusing if you don't use on a regular basis yourself it can get very confusing in what is being said.

Spell check is right there on the right at the top of the page. People just don't use it. I have had a few occasions when I've used it and the spell check won't know how to spell a word either.

This is another symptom of our affluent society. Even the lazy or ignorant people in minimum wage positions can afford computers and internet access. Likewise, these same people have such an amount of leisure time that they can spend much of it in a place so non-productive for them as this.
So put this in a list with several others symptoms of affluence, like decreasing educational standards, non-voters, obesity, reliance on government, low regard for liberty, obsession with miniscule injustices while people starve around the world, etc. etc.

Sometimes its people from other countries...people type quick so they can get points...they aren't as much as perfectionists as others to even care about spelling...if you just get annoyed by people who may misspell words sometimes, then you have more problems than they do, might I suggest relaxing a little bit.

Perhaps some have not yet grasped the concept of clicking on the spell check, or maybe their spelling is so bad because they cannot read the words (check spelling) Just a thought. Have a great day, God Bless
