The boots and pants are called 'turnouts,' and are fireproof uniforms. In the fire station, they generally wear Tshirts, shorts, uniform pants, etc.
-The turnouts are designed for quick response time to alarms.

They wear shirts and pants around the firehouse. The protective gear they wear while fighting fires is placed there for easy access. This gear is too heavy to wear around the firehouse; They change into their gear as soon as they get a call.

LOL...Are you any good at photography? I can see that being a great photo. Firehouse and truck in the background with the items in a line out front, all you need is a spotted dog. :-)

The same kind of thing you wear when you're in your house.

You wouldn't really wear your rain gear, or snow parka inside, would you? Likewise, they don't wear their fire gear when they're inside.

See if they ever do an open house - sometimes they will let you gear up - then you'll KNOW why they don't wear it - it's uncomfortable & heavy!
