If women can wear hats in the workplace, and men can't, isn't that discrimination? If some employers allow some employees to wear kufis indoors because of religion, and don't allow everyone the opportunity to wear them, isn't that discrimination?
I think everyone should be allowed to wear hats or kufis. Or nobody should be able to wear hats or kufis. That is the only way to stop this discrimination in the workplace, training environment, or any inside facility.
Please give your opinion and ask others what they think about it. If you have the guts, ask your Human Resource Department what is their policy on this issue?

What kind of hats are women wearing in the workplace??

Religious head wear is allowed by either sex at any time. No issue there.

Whether or not you wear a hat in the workplace is really dependant on where you work. I don't see any women wearing hats, any more often than men do. What you may be referring to is the rule that men should remove their hats when they are indoors. This was because a big part of the mens fashion was to wear hats, and removing them indoors was considered polite. Women could wear hats and leave them on because they usually had to fuss (hat pins) to take them off or put them on. It was just one of those manners things that was totally biased. But that was over 50 years ago...

You should do what your mother/grandmother taught you. You don't want to embarass her now do you? :p

First off, I don''t know if anyone is "allowed" to wear hats in the workplace here.

It is a custom that a man remove his hat when coming indoors. This is from Wikipedia:

In the Western culture derived from Christian tradition, removing one's headgear is a sign of respect, making oneself more open, humble or vulnerable, much like bowing or kneeling. This is as if to say, "I acknowledge that you are more powerful than I am, I make myself vulnerable to show I pose no threat to you and respect you." Men's hats are removed in Church, and not removing them is usually frowned upon. Women, however, are required to wear a hat to cover the head in some churches based on 1 Corinthians 11:5.

In other words, it is not a workplace thing, just a custom that men are expected to follow.

Actually, if the only reason they're allowing kufis is for religious reasons, then your employers are protecting THEM against discrimination based on religion.

Either way, if they're a private company, not considered a state actor, then they can require whatever dress code they want.

To be honest and give my full opinion, I say that if it has nothing to do w/ payment or something serious, then it doesn't matter. After all it's not important.

So something as trivial as HATS??? Come on now....get a life.

Whether you're allowed or not shouldn't make difference. Who cares if you wear a hat or not?...And just so you know....I don't know where you're working at, but most places don't allow men or women to wear hats at all, unless its for religious reasons.
