I was talking to my cousin the other night. Her son is 5 and was recently diagnosed with Aspergers. I mentioned to her that my 18 month old son is obsessed with ceiling fans. She was surprised to hear it because apparently her son is also obsessed with them....she had heard that many autistic children liked fans. I got to looking online and found several accounts of parents who were describing their autistic children's interests and behaviors, and I was surprised at some of the similarities with my sons interests. I never thought anything was wrong with the was he acted though, after all he's just a kid. He LOVES ceiling fans, turning on and off lights, and sometimes he crawls along rubbing his head on the floor. Are these really abnormal behaviors? My son is the most social kid I've ever seen. He tried desperately to get people's attention so he can interact with them. Is this actually something to worry about?

I have started babysitting this little boy during the week while his mom goes to school. My little sister is graduating from college on Friday and I really want to go, but I would have leave Wednesday and won't be back until Sunday. I told the mother last week that she would need to make other arrangements for her son those 3 days. She told me today that she couldn't find anything to do with him. I really want to go, I haven't had a vacation or a break from my own kids in over 7 years. My sanity really depends on this trip, what do I do? I don't want to leave her "screwed" but I really need this vacation.

Well the fun has started.. my almost 14 month old throws temper tantrums. He gets frustrated if soemthing doesnt work right or if his push toy gets stuck on something, or I dont let him get his way on certain things. Like playing with the tv and dvd player, he constantly does it even tho i say no a million times. I keep removing him and explaining no don't touch and he just flips out and keeps going back.... this goes on 5-10 times then he gets upset and cries and hugs me. then i give him luvins and he calms down and we go play with something else. Anybody elses child do this? When he gets into something Then i let him cry and say too bad, i said no. Or you cant do that or whatever. Am i doing things right? Being a good mother? I ignore it to show that his actions will not be rewarded but also tell him No! that it wont be tollerated to a certain point.

My 2yr old son has terrible circulation. Last year he could wear two pairs of mittens and his hands were still ice cold. He would scream and cry in pain from the cold. This year isn't as bad, but he still has really cold hands. I was just wondering if anyone knew how I can improve his circulation. I know cayenne pepper is supposed to help but good luck getting him to eat that....

What are some good age appropriate toys for a two year old girl? We still have her stacking cups, stacking blocks, and stacking rings (she loves to stack!) as well as other toys for younger kids that she still loves to play with. She also loves puzzles and dolls, but I was wondering what else is good age appropriate toys besides books as she has a mountain of books.

My baby had 2 colds in Nov and now has a third cold. He just stopped sounding congested last week! I'm going to the ped. tomorrow to check his ears bc he had a mild infection related to the second cold in Nov and he was on antibiotics. He's also getting his molars. Do you think the teething is causing him to put more germs in his mouth (he's definitely putting his hands in his mouth alot) or do you think there's something else I'm not doing that I should be doing to prevent these colds? I just don't want him to go thru another cycle of congestion/cough/ear infection! It is just too hard to listen to my baby try to breathe as he eats (he's still nursing) and sleeps. Help!!

my husband (their daddy) says she is just a perfect angel, with a capital "A", no less, but when I am around she immediately starts whining, wants to be held non-stop, etc. She's grabbing at my legs right now whining to be held. I don't pick her up in order to not 'teach' her that whining gets her what she wants. It doesn't seem to help. I give her TONS of affection so it's not a lack of 'mommy love' that is causing it. What can I do? She really tests me!!!

my 3 year old little girl became a devil child. About a year ago I stopped working to be at home with her and in aug I went back to work. She has been staying with my sister in law while I work. Lately she has been trying to hit me spit at me and she yells at me. She won't listen at all. I don't want to keep yelling at her and punishing her but I don't know what else to do to get her to be my little girl again. She use to be so polite and fun now she is a terror so is this just how a 3 year old acts or do I need to find a toddler boot camp? Please help me on what to do with her

Hi, my partner claims obseekers allowence for us both, and we get tax credits for our 3 very young children. My partner has just started a course which is part of the benefits scheme. My oldest goes to nursery on the afternoon and im having trouble taking and picking her up as my partner usually does it. Im having trouble because my 1 1/2 year old wont walk outside and my youngest is 3 months, i cant push 2 pushchairs at once. Im just wondering if i can get free childcare or so much free for her if im on benefits? just a couple of hours a day, then it will give me time to pick my other child up from nursery. To be honest she would benefit from nursery as she is very shy and would open her up a bit especially as she starts big school nursery in march next year too.
All advice very apprichiated. thanks.

I'm a single parent of four boys and I'm finding my eldest son a nightmare. He swears, kicks, screams the house down and bites his younger brothers. I don't swear, or even shout loud so I don't know where he is getting it from, I have tried to take aways his toys, put him on the bottom stairs for 5 minutes among other things, but he is still being a nightmare!
Also he refuses to use the potty, wets and soils the bed at night and even worse, sometimes takes his diaper off and soils all over the furniture. Please Help!

My neice is 3 months old and there is no room in my sisters 2 bed home to make her a bedroom. She is going to have to sleep in the same room as my nephew who is 10. When he is 12 I doubt he will want his little sister running around his ankles all the time. They have told my sister that my neice isnt classed as a person until she is two.
Annoying!

My daugther woke up in the middle of the night and said that her Dad hit her in the face. I asked the next morning for more details and she said Daddy was mad and hit me in the face. I asked my soon to be Ex about it and he said that nothing happened. 2 nights later same thing happens except this time she said that he hit her in the head and it was an accident. And, he said that did happen. I asked him again about hitting her in the face and he said he dones't know why she would say that.
What should I do?

My son is 17 months old and dosen't talk. He had said Mama and Daddy, but, rarely. He does everything but talk, he points, makes animal sounds (only a couple), shows me what he wants, brings me toys to play, looks and points at picture book with me, dances to All music, laughs, has good eye contact, very social with people he knows (not with people he dosen't), knows his eyes, nose, mouth, ears, toes, and belly, looks or comes when hears his name, but, no clear talking. Should I worry?

My 17 month old son shows no intrest in using his spoon. He will hold it with one hand and eat with the other. If I scoop up some food and put it to his mouth, yes, he will eat, but, no interest without my help. I do have to admit that I am a bit of a clean freak. I still feed him the really messy stuff. Am I holding him back? Any way to help him learn?

My baby is about 20 months, everything looks OK, but a few times a week she has these strange 'nervous fits' or 'frustration crisis'. For 30-60sec she shakes hands, screams, panics, starts crying
The cause can vary, for example it happens when she makes a 10 piece wooden puzzle and the last shape does not fit in the hole (because she got it inverted). Another typical cause is when her sandal (velcro) or shirt is messed up and she cannot fix it

Is this normal or must i tell the doctor?

I am afraid that it may be too early, even though she seems to love it. I feel that if she sleeps in our bed, a bed similar to ours will help her sleep in her own bed. With being pregnant, I don't want her sleeping in the bed with us when the new baby comes! Is it too early for her to have a twin size bed? She was crawling out of the crib at 9 months, so she has had a toddler bed for almost a year now. Anyone know if this is too soon for the transition? Or is it one of those 'the sooner the better' things like bottle weaning and thumb sucking?

She's never been sick and from my side there are no problems. I'm an online student and at home most of the time. Is there an age limit? Some people on here seem to think it's crazy.

We are tryna figure out what type of food to feed to my boyfriends little girl. We are selective on what we eat. We basically don't eat beef or pork. So when it comes to hot dogs we eat the chicken hotdogs.

So basically moms and dads, what do you feed your little ones. For dinner, snack or whatever. We want something healthy, not to much sodium cause everything has it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Please help us.

Thanks

He will scream when he is happy and screams when he is not happy. I don't want him to think it is wrong to not be happy but there is a time for using your indoor voice and a time for your outdoor voice. He is too young to reason with. Any suggestions would be great!

Let's say a baby was born with no problems, no learning difficulties. Then a baby fell from the bed and hit her head on the ground a few times. Then when she turned 1, she fell from the stroller and hit her head on the ground. And her mother never took her to a doctor after these accidents.

So could these accidents cause her to have learning difficulties?
