My son is almost 18 months old. I'm kind of trying to phase him out of using a stroller, because I think it's good exercise for him to walk with us instead of being carried (at least when time allows it). But I used to go for walks with him in the morning for exercise and he loved it. I've stopped taking him out on mornings because I think he's too old to be in a stroller. But I miss it a lot, and I'm sure he'd enjoy it if we restarted it. What are your experiences with phasing out stroller use?

I have told my little girl Santa is pretend - just in the same way Dora the explorer, Winnie the Pooh etc are also pretend.

My reason for doing this is that I want her to always know that I am truthful with her. Inevitably she will find out it is all just a charade and perhaps a part of her will lose trust in me for carrying on that lie. I dont be a spoil sport and I play along etc but I let her know it is just a game.

I am Christian and do not then want her to see Jesus and Santa as both something they believed in but which turned out to be make believe. (yes, atheists insert your snide comment here)

Why do some people make such a big deal of it, as if I am a cruel and mean parent?

My son is 3.5 and is have a really rough time falling asleep on his own. I typically lay in his bed with him until he's just at the point of sleep and then kiss him good night and leave before he actually falls asleep. However, since the Thanksgiving holiday, he's been unable to do this. The second I begin to get up from the bed, he begins to panic and cry, begging me not to leave.

If I do get up and leave, he becomes semi-hysterical. Closing the door and holding it shut only leads to enrage him to the point where he is banging on the door with both fists, screaming, and waking my daughter across the hall. Going back in and lying down with him causes all the tears to go away almost instantly. I have tried reasoning, bribing him with rewards, and sitting on a chair instead of the bed. None of these work. He won't sleep unless I'm in the bed with him and then the instant I leave, no matter the time of night and how deeply he's asleep, he pops up and the panic begins again.

The only way I can get my 21 month old to sleep at night or during the day at nap time is to lay with her. Ive tried the cry it out method it doesnt work....all she does is get outta bed and bang on the door screaming. If that doesnt work then she shoves her hand in her mouth till she pukes......I dont think that there is a huge problem with this because I do love to lay with her and "cuddle" however in 3 months when I have a newborn it may not be feasible to lay down with my toddler. PLEASE I AM OPEN TO ALL SUGGESTIONS.

Or more so, tell me what you do with your 20 month old. Not trying to compare here, just curious.....
Mine is still in her crib (LOVES it). Goes to bed awake and puts herself to sleep. Sleeps with about 10 small animals. Been off the bottle since she was one, never took a pacifier. Carries her Ernie doll everywhere. LOVES books. No where near potty training. (has no concept of having to go or that she went). Size 18 months clothes and size 5 shoes. 1 two hour nap. We still use a baby moniter. buy baby juice because she can only have 4oz per day. Drinks water with ice in it. I give her Gerber Graudates Meat Sticks and Fruit snacks. all other normal foods. Whole milk. No chocolate, VERY limited candy (special occasion only). only 1 hour of TV each day (cartoons in the morning). she picks out her own clothes each day (pick between 2 or 3) and make as many simple choices in her day as she is able. Picks her own snacks. Brush teeth morning and night. Bath before bed.

I'm getting ready to have my first baby and I want to stock his/her room with plenty of books. I've been looking at Dr. Suess and Disney but what are some other books that would be good to get? Some that will take them on for their first few years, from birth to maybe when they start school. I want them to expand over several years, not just their first year. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone have a list of toys that are made in America?
My kids(they are toddlers)are invited to many birthday parties, and the parents are increasingly asking for NO toys or only toys made in America.
Also,my own kids have been tested for lead, and though they are well under the limit for lead poisoning, the level has not gone down and in one of them it actually went up a point. They are both 3 1/2 and they generally don't put toys in their mouth, but this is obviously a concern for me.I had my house tested and it was negative so I have no clue where the exposure is coming from.
I would love to have websites, store names, product line names and individual toy names that are made in America, the more the better. Thanks in advance!!

My daughter is 18 mos old. For the past month she wakes up at 2 am every morning & demands milk. Some nights she'll wake up 2 or 3 times and wants it. Of course I always give it to her, which is why, I imagine, she's waking up. I tried giving water & she refuses it. If I don't give in she cries until she pukes. It's awful & I don't know what to do to break this cycle. I brush her teeth in the morning because I'm worried what all the milk will do to her teeth. She used to always sleep through the night so I don't know what started this. I feel stuck & don't know what to do about this. I hate making her scream because she won't eventually stop, like I said she cries til she throws up. I could really use some advice. Thanks.

I have just had my twins vaccinated against chicken pox, within a day of that needle my daughter started to develope chicken pox. My doctor confirmed that it is indeed the dreaded pox, but had never heard of this happening before. Anyone else had their child vaccinated only to have them break out with it?

Has anyone taught their child how to play a piano at 3 years old? My son shows a tremendous amount of interest in instruments and music. We got him a keyboard for Christmas. Do you think he's too young to learn how to play? Would he understand what note is what? Do you think he'll remember the tune we just taught him? He's very bright. I just want to hear if anyone had any experiences with their child at this young age. Thank you!

hit the same spot in the last couple of weeks. I put ice on it and kept her up for a few hours then checked on her through the night to make sure she was okay. I really panicked and i startedd thinking. How do i know that when she falls and hurts her head that it's serious enough to take her to the hospital? If she hits herself in the same spot again before healing, should I take her to the doctor right away?

The little girl next door was watching a show. I was baby-sitting. It was one of those shows when a little kid asks his/her perants where do babies come from. I didn't bother to change the channel since it was rated safe. Hard to understand huh? So after the show she turns around and asks the big question, "Cassie, where do babies come from?".

"Your mom." Thats all I could say. "They come from thier mommies, understand sophie?".

"Where from mommy?".

And on and on she went. So I called Mrs.lenus. She didn't like me calling her at work so she hung up. I told Sophie her mom would tell her all she needed to know. But her mom didn't tell her. And Sophie wanted to know badly. She made me promise to tell her on the weekend.

So I asked my mom, dad, and brother but, they all didn't have much to say about the topic. So now I'm asking a bigger crowed the same question.

My kids just got a bucket of hand-me-down toys from a friend. In this bucket was the Leapfrog discovery ball which needs new batteries. Does anyone know how to remove the ball from the stand? It has a release button, but that doesn't seem to be doing it. I know the battery cover is inside the ball, but can't get it off the stand to get it open......

How many children do you allow? Do you do this just 2-3 days a week or full time? What kind of activities would you recommend for this age. I am a sahm with a 1 year old and meeting with the mom of a 2 1/2 year old for care 2 days a week. I want to be fair in the pricing but also it has to be worth it especially since i only want to care for one family so that i do not have to deal with liscencing. If you are a mom who takes your child to a home daycare you are happy, with please let me know what you pay and if it's part or full time. Thanx for your input.

Only with chocolate milk will my son throw up all over the place about an hour after having it. He can drink regular & strawberry milk fine and it's the same thing with chocolate ice cream and chocolate (candy). I asked my doctor, they couldn't think of anything so I just stopped giving it to him altogether, anybody know why?

They handed me a photocopied flyer from a religious group urging me to protest a new state bill (SB777 in California) that would require homosexuals and trans-gendered individuals to be included on the list of people who are protected from discrimination. This flyer was generated by a church group called "saveourkids.net" and it extrapolates a future, if this bill is enforced, that will eliminate prom kings and queens, gender-specific bathrooms, and will prohibit teachers from referring to parents as "mom and dad". The bill does nothing of the sort.
This preschool is a private school but they receive state money for meals and transportation. I specifically asked when I was investigating the school if they were church-affiliated or did they give any religious instruction, and they assured me they did not.
I feel this flyer is inappropriate, but I don't want to over react.
I am a non-believer and do not agree with the contents, but that is beside the point, I think.
