Toddler & Preschooler - January 2007

My young son had become good friends with a next door neighbor child. However, this child was verbally "abusive" on many occasions to him (& others). he's left their house in tears after being shouted at to leave by this child, among other mean words. This child's parents removed the child from preschool because of excessive anxiety & from an extra curricular activity for pretty much the same reason. My son was part of both of these & became very confused by these events & the verbal meaness. I reached my boiling point in response to a "neutral" email the parent sent me. I said I could no longer accept the way he was being spoken to and was tired of explaining the several "situations"/words to him. I also (tactfully) did not believe removing the child from school and other stuff was so great. I've tried many times to patch things up by cards/email. She's not acknowled any of my attempts and has instructed her kids not to wave to my young sons. Our kids will be in school together! HELP!

My 3 1/2 year old daugter has a yeast infection. She is very uncomfortable, and I don't know what to do. It hurts when she pees and she is really red. It's definetly not diaper rash, because she is completely potty trained, so I don't think diaper rash cream will work.

I called the pharmacy to ask if it was ok to use otc yeast infection creams on kids her age. They said it was too strong for little kids, so don't use it. And they also said that they could not legally give out medical advice, so they couldn't give me any suggestions.

So then I called the docs answering service and told them what was wrong, and they said they would have the on call doctor call me. That was about 3 hours ago, and no call yet. It is Saturday night, so I can't get her in to see a doctor for a couple of days.

So, is there anyone out there who has a child that has had a yeast infection? What can I do to ease her discomfort untill I can get a doctors appointment?

Thanks in advance.

My husband and I just moved from our home town but was having our daughter continue attending her preschool. After lots of problems with the school (Boys pushing and chasing the little girls, threatening to kill them and mooning them) problems with the teacher and board not doing anything; we decided to not have her attend second semester. It wasn't worth the half hour drive each way with a new baby anyway! Well, we hated to switch her preschools in the middle of the year and then start kindergarten in the fall, so we decided to keep her at home and I would work with her second semester. She can write her full name, almost all her letters, knows her phone number. She can recongnize her alphabet and almost all her numbers. She can count to twenty and to ten in spanish. I plan on attending our weekly library class and maybe an art or karate for socialization. But is that ok? It was so hectic commuting her on top of the problems.

My son wets the bed every couple of nights. We have keep him in pull ups at night but when does it become an issue. He will be six in July and he does fine all day. When he attended daycare they used to say that he sleeps so sound that they could move him all over without phasing him and he does sleep pretty hard. we have a 3 yr old girl who is fully potty trained even at night. Any advice. We have tried wakeing him up in the middle of the night.

My daughter will no longer answer to her name. She will only answer if you call her princess. I think it's rather cute but some family members are starting to get annoyed by it. She'll be three in April so I just figured this was the age to do sill things like that. So, Should I just let her be called princess or let my family have there way?

I haven't worked since my first child was born almost 6 yrs ago. I am going to start work again in about 2 weeks my youngest is almost 4, but I'm ready! So anyway I have no idea what they charge for day care. And if it differs by age of the child or what.
Or if where you live makes a difference, I live in Kansas if it does.

If you know what the average rates are it would be a big help!!!!!!!! Thanks!

I am getting ready to have a birthday party for my daughter who is turning 5. I have been trying to find some fun games that don't cost an arm and a leg, but are fun and age appproprate. Most of the stuff that I have looked at is either to young for her or to old. Does any one have any ideas on how to keep them entertained and not break the bank?

my daughter is now 3 and a half and i feel like i'm giving up all hope on potty training.every night i let her run bare and sit her potty out but even though she knows what it is for she still refuses to use it.she'll tell me when she needs to pee so i try to sit her on but she just flips herself forward so the pee goes everywhere! i've even tried the normal toilet but she's terrified she'll fall in even with her own little seat on it.i've also tried pants but even if i manage to get them on she'll kick, scream and pull until she gets them off.i know i should be trying harder but being a single parent aswell as living alone am just at the point where i havent got the strength or willpower left..need advice plz!!!

My daughter is at an age where she has really started to test me...especially in public places i.e. the grocery store, restraunts
It is VERY embarassing when she does it! Her favorite thing to do is squeal and I mean SQUEAL as loud as she can if she isn't getting her way. Usually if I don't let her run wild in the store or won't let her put everything she sees into the basket. I have tried bringing along books, snacks, juice, toys, anything to occupy/entertain her and I always wait until after her nap so I know it's not because she's sleepy. It's just very frustrating!! People look at me like "you need to get control of that child" & I don't blame them! Any ideas?? She rarely acts this way with her daddy!

i have a 21month old who is more than ready to use the potty on a regular basis. however, i have 2 issues:

1. He wants me to hold his "you know what" while he goes, and he won't hold it on his own.

2. Instead of going all at once, he wants to go a little bit at a time..so basically, he is in the bathroom all day long.

How can I get him to understand to go all at once, and that if it needs to be held, that he should do it and not me?

I have an otherwise wonderful 15 month old little boy who will not fall asleep on his own and wakes up several times during the night.

At about 6 months old he was falling asleep on his own and slept through the night. But since then we have moved around quite a bit. Now he is extremely attached to me and will only go to sleep (and fall back asleep during the night) when I breatfeed him (which I really want to stop -- I would love suggestions on this as well, he eats fairly well during the day so it's not for lack of nutrition, more a habit).

I have tried giving him bottles, putting him in his crib and laying beside it, anything I can think of. He cries hysterically when he's put in the crib and completely loses it if I leave the room (even shaking) so that option is out.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - this Mommy is going out of her mind!

I've been paying alot money this past year to have my child in Montessori school. Well today, I discovered she can't recongize any of her numbers over 5 on a sheet of paper, and only knows a few of her alphabets. I am thinking about homeschooling her.
What should she know and this age? And should I be upset?
Serious answers only please. Thanks
