i have a 21month old who is more than ready to use the potty on a regular basis. however, i have 2 issues:
1. He wants me to hold his "you know what" while he goes, and he won't hold it on his own.
2. Instead of going all at once, he wants to go a little bit at a time..so basically, he is in the bathroom all day long.
How can I get him to understand to go all at once, and that if it needs to be held, that he should do it and not me?

If he wants you to hold it then what about having him sit down on the toilet to pee until he will hold it on his own. Or try explaining to him that boys have to hold there own "thing" by themselves. You could also try putting ceral like Cherios or something in the toliet and have him aim for them. Try making a game out of it for him. If you can have his dad or another male take him to the bathroom and show him how it is done. Then maybe he will pick up on the idea that he has to hold it himself. As for your second issue try telling him that it isn't good for him to go a little bit at a time and that it will take away from something that he really likes to do like play with one of his toys for example.

21 is still young give it a couple of months. it don't sound like he is as ready as you think.
1 Have him sit down and pee at first. OR put cheerios in the toilet tell him to AIM AND HIT! Make it a game.
2. PUSH PUSH THAT PEE PEE OUT! Make a face like you have to push and one hand a fist.

Get his daddy to take him to the bathroom with him. Also if a child is under 4, it is okay for him to sit on the toilet to pee.

Have your husband use the potty at the same time.
Like father, like son.
God, they used to have pee races to see who could pee the longest, just to empty my son's bladder.

Put Cheerios in the toilet and tell him to try and sink them. It worked for us. Good Luck!

It sounds like you need daddy to step in, i bet if he sees daddy doing it he'll do it b/c he wants to be just like him.
