My twins just got over pink eye. They came down with it last weekend, so of course, we couldn't go to the doctor....we called our doctor's office and got the answering service, who connected us to the nurse hotine. We talked to a nurse who confirmed it was pink eye and paged the doctor on call and we got a prescription for the eye ointment. They were better within 24 hours. They told us not to use any other medicine but their own prescription and that the over the counter medicines really only relieve the symptoms. Good Luck.

NO, you can not use someone else's medication on a child...(geeze where do THESE parents come from? What planet?) Take the child to the doctor, you say it LOOKS like pink eye but since you don't KNOW you would only be doing more harm than good and could blind your child for life. Get REAL!

My sons get that all the time. Only use the medication if you have used it before and it has yielded results and if it was prescribed for him. Be careful not to let the applicator touch his eye because that, too, can cause recontamintion.
As for the mucous that builds up and dries around his eyes, use warm, semi-wet, clean towels to clean awy the crust.
You should also wash your hands EVERY time you come into contact with his eyes. Clean his pillow cases and blankets and any special toys he has that may have come into contact with his eyes. Pink eye is EXTREMELY contagious and you all can recontaminate eachother.
You may also want to consider disinfectants for your hands and Lysol for doorknobs, light switches, and other handles. Just for precautions.
Most importantly get him to the doctor ASAP so that they can properly diagnose his eye condition. Pink eye can be confused with other more serious eye conditions.
Be gentle and I hope he feels better soon.

Call the child's Doctor and ask to speak with a nurse. Go thru all of the facts and ask if there is something you can do for it or if a doctors visit is in order. NEVER give a child medication that is not theirs especially you don't know what the condition is. Doctors and nurses are here for a reason...use them. Even if you don't think its serious, a phone never hurts and you can rest better at night for it.

I would just put a warm wash cloth when he wakes up in the morning and I WOULD NOT GIVE HIM MEDICATION that you have I would take him in to his pediatrician and make sure it is pink eye and get a new prescription for him. Never mess with eyes.......

if you think he needs pink eye he needs to see a doctor, pink eye is very contagious...and never reuse old medications, meds do expire after a period of time and the meds should be used till gone, not till everything looks better..most docs have after hours coverage and the doc on call can call in a new prescription

You aren't supposed to use your pink eye medication with others, but I probably would until you can get to the doctor and get another prescription for him. My son had it before and I used what he was prescribed on myself when I got it.

A quick call to his doctor would answer that question. Most pediatricians offices have doctors or nurses on call on nights and weekends. Don't hesitate to give them a call...that's what they're there for.

It shold be safe to use it as long as it wasn't CONTAMINATED by someone else's pink eye.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. I would consult his physician.
