It's normal, but Dad should take him aside privately and tell him it makes others uncomfortable and is something he should do in his room with the door closed. It may very well be time for Dad to have "the chat" with your son. Just don't yell at him for it, you could damage him permanently.

Friend of mine said he did that at about that age; scooted once while he was lying on the floor watching TV, it "felt good", and that was the only way he could achieve that sensation until he discovered masturbation. Like others have said, that is about the age that touching creates a sexual stimulation, even if he hasn't gone through puberty yet. Let dad talk to him because you might embarrass him; same friend's mom had "the Talk" with him when she discovered some old t-shirts that were a little more than dirty, said it was the most embarrassed he'd ever been.

when children of that age display behaviour which mimics adult behaviour I think that is a concern - Has he viewed anything inappropriate? Ask him why he is doing it and where he has seen is (try to ask in a not too concerned tone) He could have seen kids at school doing it and it could be one of his peers has been exposed to inappropriate material or behaviour. He needs to understand that this is not a socially acceptable way of behaving. You also need to somehow ensure he has not been interfered with in any way - Kids don't lie about that stuff so careful tactful questioning (You must make sure you don't shame him) is really important. I don't know why your husband doesn't think it is strange I know my husband would be very concerned. Good Luck. Hope your boy is ok.

Its normal. Sounds to me like your son must have seen someone doing this and now he seems to be getting curious. He is at the age where they start getting a little bit curious about things of that "nature". Keep a close eye on him though. The hormone of "I think I like girls" is starting to kick in because now a days there is so much children are watching on t.v. Just keep a close eye on your son and he will be alright.

I think it's weird too. I've got an 11 year old and a 9 year old and neither boy humps anything - at least that I know about.

Sounds weird to me! Is he doing this on the living room floor or in his room? Does your husband not find it weird because he is doing it too? Show your son the palm sisters and a couple of dirty magazines and send him to his room.

It's totally normal - just tell him that it's something that he should do in private, in his room. Don't make a big deal out of it. And give him some privacy!
