My husband and I just moved from our home town but was having our daughter continue attending her preschool. After lots of problems with the school (Boys pushing and chasing the little girls, threatening to kill them and mooning them) problems with the teacher and board not doing anything; we decided to not have her attend second semester. It wasn't worth the half hour drive each way with a new baby anyway! Well, we hated to switch her preschools in the middle of the year and then start kindergarten in the fall, so we decided to keep her at home and I would work with her second semester. She can write her full name, almost all her letters, knows her phone number. She can recongnize her alphabet and almost all her numbers. She can count to twenty and to ten in spanish. I plan on attending our weekly library class and maybe an art or karate for socialization. But is that ok? It was so hectic commuting her on top of the problems.

You made the best decision for your family. And just remember that not everyone sends their children to Preschool so don't feel like you're depriving her of something. I'm sure you will find something in your new area. It sounds like you are a stand up parent and doing an awesome job. Time with her Mom is more precious(especially with a new baby in the house) than time at a Preschool, and the taking her to classes will be great for her socialization. Keep up the good work! :)

Making decisions like these are very hard. I know that you are second guessing yourself and that is just normal but it sounds like you are great parents and that your child is adjusting well. Removing her from the unhealthy previous environment and bringing her home for the last semester before she starts kindergarten will no harm her. If anything it will help her to make a clean break from the past and be ready to start school with new friends and new teachers. Good Luck!

Of course you did the right thing. I can't believe you had her in a preschool like that anyway (threatening to KILL the little girls at that age! Holy crap!) Instead of worrying about pulling her OUT of that type of environment, I would feel worse for ever putting her IN that type of environment. Next time you might want to screen preschools before putting her in a bad one.

I think that getting her out of that environment was the right thing to do. I certainly wouldn't want my kid in a school like that! And it sounds like academically, she's in good shape.

Now that she's not in pre-school, one thing to consider is finding other opportunities for her to interact with kids her age, especially when mom and dad aren't around to mediate disputes, etc. Interactions with other kids are important, and helps kids learn how to navigate the world around them socially. Are there home-school groups in your area that have play-dates and/or field trips that you can join in on? Does your daughter attend "extra-curricular" classes like swim lessons or gymnastics or something? Just make sure that she has a chance to play with other kids and socialize.
