My daughter will not sit down on her potty for longer than 20 seconds and thinks its a toy box. She puts toys in it all the time, and I have to hide it from her. I have NO clue at all on how to potty train her.

My daughter is nine months old and is starting to show signs of temper tantrums. She is doing them when I take her away from something dangerous; waiting for me to get dinner to the table; or if I take a toy away that she is getting frustrated with and try to pacify her with another toy. We have a split home I am kinda wondering if that has something to do with that. Where not everything thing is the same when she is at her fathers house opposed to being at home. We try to keep everything pretty much the same for her, but she is catered to a little more when she is there. What can or should I do when she is throwing this fits?

My son has a little cousin who gets everything and he is constantly making my son feel bad and not letting him play with his stuff because his parents/grandparents buy him the world. There has to be something that I can get my son that will make him feel important... I know it shoudlnt be material things but we all know how we felt when we were kids and I know I am poor currently but I will do what I can to make him feel just as good even for a moment.

My nephew is almost 11 months old. He is absolutely adorable but has some really weird quirky traits--that are also adorable.

For one, he beckons everything and has since he was about 6 months old. He will turn his palm up and try to rake things in, including toys, the ceiling light, pictures on the wall, etc. I have worked with kids for almost ten years and have never seen one who did this. It is SO cute!

Also, if a door opens it is the coolest thing to him in the world. He will come from another room when he hears it open to play with it--including the refrigerator door! In his old house there was about a three inch gap under the doors and he would crawl up to them at 7 months and try to look under them--including the bathroom door anytime someone went to the bathroom!!!

What are the cutest things that your kids do?

My 18 month old daughter rarely ever chews her food, she swallows it whole,I have to watch her eat because she starts to choke and cough. She has plenty of teeth and a few molars so I know she could chew good if she wanted to. I try to feed her things that dont need a lot of chewing and if swallowed whole it wont hurt her.Like macaroni and cheese and small banana chucks because they are soft. But I am worried she has something wrong with her,It is really starting to upset me....what do I do?

I have a 2y/o daughter who is so bright and wimsical but refuses to sit still for more than 2 minutes while i try to teach her something.
She learned her alphabet through play and song. She learned to say 1-5 playing finger rhymes.
For christmas her great grandparent's and uncles all pitched in to buy her a My First Leap Pad. It's pink and so cute and they bought about 9 pads to go with it. I've tried several times to sit with her and get her started but she cries and stomps because she wants to chew the pen/book or throw it around. So i put it up in the cupboard but i want to get her started to get her vocabulary going more. But i can not for the life of me, get her to sit still for reading, drawing or phonics any longer than 2 minutes.
I'm patient and tell her to calm down this is what we have to do etc and i've let her explore on her own only to have some things/activities broke - is there any way of calming her down during these times and get her to listen firmly?

I try to force to him to eat but he just shakes his head and screams or whines...so I let him go without eating a whole lot.
But then he will go to the cupboards and eat a cookie or junk, so I know he isnt NOT hungry...I dont know wat to do, because I dont think he is getting enough food and nutrients...AND YES, I do take away the sweets.

okay. my ex boyfriend is still a very big part of my life. he lives with me, and so do his 2 boys every tuesday and e/o weekend. my problem is they used to listen to me w/ no problems. now i think they are testing me to see what they'll get away with. the 5 year old will stare at me w/ this blank look on his face and proceed to do whatever it is i asked him not to do. i ask him to look at me every time i speak to him, and then ask him to repeat what i said. it gets me nowhere. he doesnt listen at all. the 2 year old has a big problem with telling me no and talking back. he even started hitting me at one point. i refuse to spank the kids because they are not mine, but i expect them to show me respect. how do i get this through to them??

My daughter was colicky the first 4 months, and has been an angel and slept all night from 5-19 mos. Recently she doesn't want to go to bed, and then will wake up from 11-3 am crying. I have a bedtime routine, same naps everyday, bed at 8:30-9pm and have even let her cry it out, but she gets so worked up she almost hyperventiliates!! Any suggestions? She starts crying as soon as we walk into her room! Now, tonight she will have a new bedroom as we re-modeled our upstairs and she has a new room, how do I get her to adjust to this?

He is 2 years old and he still gets up and down at night. He does NOT take naps during the day. He is a big drinker and gets up during the night to drink. I use to keep a sippy cup by the bed and thought thats what the problem was so i took the sippy cup away and make him get up and go to the kitchen to get a drink of water, but hes just happy doing that also. And, of course, because of this problem he sleeps in my bed not his own. I think if I can ever get him to sleep the entire night through putting him in his own bed will fall into place. WHAT DO I DO??? .....a very tired mother.

Do any Moms have suggestions on how to find private babysitters during work hours? My mother keeps my son right now, but will be going on vacation the end of February and I need to find a reliable trustworthy person to keep my 3 year old while my husband and I are at work. Someone who can do it that week and who will be available if my Mom is not.

I have a 3 bedroom home and can't afford to add on right now. I have a 2 year old a 6 year old and a 4 year old. They are all girls. My 4 and 6 year old sleep in the same room. Last night, my 4 year old got up and told me she wanted her own room. She told me she didn't want to share with her sister any more because her sister laughs at her, punches her and pushes her. I got on to the 6 year old and talked to her about her behavior, but still my 4 year old wants her room back (we put the baby in there when the baby was 5 months old. The 4 year old agreed to it then.) I'm afraid to put the baby in with the 6 year old because of the older toys. What do you think?

how old were they when they finally stopped drinking from a bottle altogether and what got them to that point? Did you force them to go cold turkey? Use some fun, little "trick" to help facilitate the switch? Just wondering what worked for you...

And please, for the love of Pete, if your child was drinking out of a cup (all of the time) before the age of two and/or you just want to spout opinions about how and why children should be weaned from a bottle before they're a year old, I don't want to hear it. That's not my question.
