Do any Moms have suggestions on how to find private babysitters during work hours? My mother keeps my son right now, but will be going on vacation the end of February and I need to find a reliable trustworthy person to keep my 3 year old while my husband and I are at work. Someone who can do it that week and who will be available if my Mom is not.

Most college students who are in the education program have been screened for abuse and neglect along with driving records and fbi background checks. Go to the local college and find the education building. Post a few fliers with what you will need.

A lot of students go to college in the evenings which will leave them free during the day.

If you live near a university or college you can both post in their career services and see what their child development centers are like. I've also used friend's references and current or former sitters. You can also check places like the local YMCA who often have emergency drop off services.

Place an ad in the local newspaper. Make sure it's professional and be sure to note that you require references. Then interview the candidates, check their references, maybe even do a background check on them.

try sittercity.com - and be sure to do a thorough background screen before hiring(a little expensive, yes, but hopefully you'll have a long-term relationship with this person). Or a local college or high school. good luck!

There are tons of nanny agencies around, look them up on the web and be sure to ask for thorough backround checks. Trust your instincts above all else.

Ask around the best daycares are home settings. Please do not go to one who has more than 10 kids. You will be much better off.
