My son is 18mo and he can say a few words clearly without me prompting him like mamma, dadda, sissy, doggie and oddly enough scarecrow (sometimes he will say something that sounds like football when my boyfriend is watching a game but it isnt really clear). I know all kids develop at different rates but I was wondering what other kids his age are saying (without you have to prompt them - he can say a few other words like baby but doesnt see a baby and say baby). Its been 8 years since my daughter was his age, I dont remember where she was developmentaly at 18mo. Thanks is advance.

My mom wants me to find a crib for my little 1 year old sister because the one she has right now is the one she is in almost all day except when we play with her or feed her. It looks like she is in jail! She cries because she is bored but if we put toys in, it becomes way too crowded! Is there such a crib/playpen thing that is about the size of a twin bed but with bars so she cant get out or bigger? Links appreciated! Also, if you don't have links, can you at least tell me what its called?

So this may sound like a silly question. Basically, my wife and I are about to start talking with our 18 month old more about going to the potty and wanted to know what words people used most commonly. Are "pee" and "poop" the winners? Thanks.

My daughter is turning 5 next month. I want to start allowing her to earn some money once a week by cleaning her room, picking up toys, etc. I am going to encourage her to start saving, and I will certainly allow her to buy a toy after she saves up enough money or something like that. I don't know what is really a good dollar amount to earn per week for a 5 year old sweetie?

Well she is one of 3 children in the household. She is the oldest. The others are 2 and 1. It normally starts out right after lunch. We (my husband and I) decided that it would be best if they took a nap until the time that they were 5. Or could do what was asked of them without complaining. Well it seems as if everyday she argues over nap time and bed time as well. We have tried giving her play time instead of nap time..but then by about 5 pm she is the grouchest kid i've ever seen. But it takes 2 hrs to get her to lay down for a nap. I just need some advice I've reached the end of my rope and I don't know what to do? I don't think spanking your children is any way to solve problems. so please don't respond with answers like that.

Looking for some ideas for my 3 year old boy. He has a room full of toys - but would rather play using his imagination. He pretends EVERYTHING. Any ideas on toys that can expand his already large imagination??

My 4 year old dug out his full Tigger costume from last halloween and has been wearing it everywhere. He only takes it off to have a bath and sleep and even that is a struggle. Todays the second day of wearing it...daycare, pre-school and when we've gone out. Should I take it away while he's sleeping tonight? And why is he doing this?

My 16 month old just started walking a month ago, and she seems to always trip over things and bonk her head on something. As soon as one bruise on her forhead goes away, she gets another one.

Did that happen to your toddler?
And does it seem to happen more right before you've scheduled a photo session?

My daughter (3yrs) goes to Head Start which is Federally funded.
The school bus has broken down so many times this year and she (along with many other kids) have had to miss school because of it. This week alone she missed 3 days and the next 2 are holiday. That makes a week of school just this week alone.
The school said even if they were given a new bus they couldn't accept it because of their funding. Who should I write to? Would a petition work in this case? Does anyone have any info that would help me get something in motion to help our kids? Thanks for any help.

Ok, I'm a frustrated first time mom. I started potty training my 2yr. old daughter this week. I set the timer for a half hour and when it goes off I take her to the potty. I have her sit on the potty for 5min. She cries almost the whole time. I try to encourage her, but she just cries through it. I've given her books to read, but that just seems to distract her. Then yesterday, I put her on the potty for 5min., got her off and two minutes later she went in her pull up. So, I put her right back on the potty and told her in a nice way that she needs to go peepee on the big girl potty and not in her pull-up. I then took her off. Within the half hour time span from the first time I put her on the potty she went pee in her pull-up twice. I just don't know what to do for her to get the idea of it. Does anyone have some good tips as to how to get her to understand it and have fun learning to go potty on the big girl potty??

I have a 3 1/2 year old boy and almost 15-month-girl -- and I adore them but the peeing "accidents" and whining, clinginess, fighting for my lap, etc. is making me a little crazy today. Who wants to join me for a glass of wine -- who cares if its before noon! (I'm on mountain time)

Anyway, just needed to vent a little...I do love being a mommy but sometimes I sure miss having an office to go to and a secretary to run my earrands and a beautiful car to drive, and today is one of those days....have a great Thanksgiving!

He's got a big crush on her and I thought it would be a good gift that Santa could bring. Most of the clothing will be directed toward girls, but the plate and bowl set just have her picture and the questions "What's the sitch?" Do you think that would be OK?

My brother in law and his wife have two dogs. When we were staying with them my little boy was 2 years old and always wanted to play with the dogs. But the dogs are not used to children being around do anything he would try doing with them the dogs did not like it. One day my son went over to the dog and tried petting him. The dog bit his face, but only scratched him. I had a huge argument with my brother in law he was telling me that if I didn't like it to keep my son away from the dogs. I said to keep the dogs somewhere my son couldn't touch them. It's kind of hard to watch your child all the time. What do you think should they of kept the dog away from my son or me kept my son away from the dogs.

My 12 month old is vaccinated up to 6 months. I've been doing a lot of research and when I think I finally have my mind made up, I find another website that sends me in the other direction. I am scared TO vaccinate but I'm scared NOT to vaccinate. My husband doesn't do any research, he just says we should do the same as we did withour 1st son. I'm really not sure what to do. Help please.

My daughter decided she loves to take off all her clothes, diaper included. Every time I come into the room, she's standing there, butt naked. I even tried to put her diaper on backwards, with the tape in the back, but it only took her 24 hours to figure it out. Did any of you guys have this problem, and how did you get your child to stay dressed?

Has anyone ever heard of a 2 yr old getting a hemorrhoid? I think my guy has one. It looks uncomfortable, but he hasn't expressed any discomfort. Its not bleeding. The funny thing is that he NEVER has hard stools. They are always very soft. So I don't know why he would even get one. If you have heard of this or experienced it, what did you do about it? Thanks in advance.
