I have 16 month old twins - boy and a girl, and they differ quite a bit.
Sometimes my girl will want to show you everything & get approval & praise where as my boy is at times very clingy yet mostly is content playing with a block or two lol.
Wiggles dvd's rock as they both love seeing me dance & sing along. Boardbooks are great aswell.
It may pass but even if it doesn't just try your hardest to enjoy it all even though YES it can get very frustrating.
But they are only little once and this is the time that creates who they'll be tomorrow.
He thrives on affection and your willingness to show him things everyday. Just make sure there are small boundaries he can learn that it's OK to sit alone and still see you.
He may turn out to be the most loving son, husband and father one day - all thanks to you..
Goodluck.

Take him outside. If he is well wrapped up, he should be fine playing outside for short periods of time. My son is 2 and he likes to go outside. Everday that I am off work, he annd I go outside and kick a ball around together or play catch. The cold is no reason to keep kids inside. A blizzard is a completely different story. He will probably continue to whine until he gets to go outside. What does it hurt, if he goes out, gets some exercise, and is a happy baby, even if it is cold outside.

That's the only way he can communicate. My son was like that, and now since he is two he tell me what he needs and if he can't say what he feels he starts to whine. Why don't you go outside, That's what winter coats are for? He'll enjoy spending time and he'll know that it is cold and might not want to come out next time. It's just like you want something so bad and you just can't have it at the moment you keep on thinking about it.

OMG-sorry, just got done reading some of your responses. A child is a precious gift from God no matter if they whine, are not interested in something, boy or girl!!
Anyways-my 21 month old son does not have a low attention span!!! He is very creative, interested in objects, colors, body parts, & his pet cats & toys, along with anything else I introduce to him. And as a matter of fact knows his colors, body parts, right from left (hands & feet mind you)--not braggging, example's.
Use your wit's as a parent......would you get bored just sitting around not doing nothing? How would you feel if you were in his shoes? Are you able to interact with him or are you a super busy Mommy? Take pride in raising you son, I'm sure you're doing great no matter how much your lil one whine's.
Be sure to also check for any illness he may have, cutting teeth, hunger, thirsty, or may just some Mommy & me time.

You know, I never dismiss a child when they whine all the time. Sometimes there may be an injury we can't see. Take him for a thorough exam from your doc, and explain about the whining. Could be a digestion issue, sprain, fracture who knows? Just eliminate all possibilities and you'll feel better.

My little boy was the same way at that age. They need the attention. All you as the parent can do is bare and grin through it. Try different things in the house to keep him occupied that is bought the only thing you can do. BEST WISHES

He just wants your attention. Try some indoor activities like building a tent or having a pinic. We make cookies and play catch all things kids like to do.

The reason he does this is because he wins the battle when he cry's you will pick him up I do Know it is hard not to because the crying gets on your nervse but try to not to pick him up as much and let him have more alone time and he will get better. We all spoil are kids.
