At the store, a grandmother was walking with her 2ish This child had one of those bigass bottles of *MOUNTAIN DEW.* This child was what I would consider grossly obese. There was no shape to her face, her belly was indistinguishable from her chest, her arms looked like sausages coming out of this little t-shirt she had on, and when she walked her thighs never separated - and she walked with the classic "obese person's walk" - you know, with the legs below the knees splayed apart from each other.

IMO, this is at the very least child neglect, if not child abuse. I know some children have thyroid issues, but there is NO way that the vast majority of kids these days are just "ill."

What do you think? Should doctors who see this children report the parents for neglect? Abuse? Keep their mouths shut? How can parents do this to their kids? If you disagree this is horrible treatment, what is your justification?

A question about bottles and soda reminded me of this encounter.

My son has worked out that if he gets up at night and sits on his potty he can stay up.
I want him to go to sleep at the right time and I know he is just getting up to stay up longer.
at the same time I don't want him to feel like he can't get up to go to the toilet.
I am unsure what to do if anything?
(last night it took 15 minuets to do a very small amount of pee)

My 4-yr old complains about everything. We haven't spoiled her. We set boundaries, she has excellent manners, but for some reason, it seems lately that absolutely nothing is good enough for her.

I run her bath, it's too hot. I run her bath, it's too cold. Her teacher hands out candy, she complains she didn't get the pink piece. We go to the play area in the mall, she complains when it's time to leave. I buy her the Cinderella costume she's wanted for months and she complains that it's itchy. I give her a banana with her breakfast, she complains that there's a brown spot on it. I give her an apple the next day, she complains that I left some of the peel on.

Does anyone here have experience with a chronic complainer? She doesn't get it from her dad or me. We have told our parents to stop sending any goodies for a while because she's just too ungrateful. Apart from that, what else can we do? Her teacher and we are tired of hearing constant complaints. Thanks much.

late last night my daughter woke up (shes almost 2). at first it was whining. before i could get to her though she started screaming "hold you, hold you" which means she wants to be held.
when i got in with her, she seemed like she was sound asleep and then started to cry. as soon as i held her she went back to sleep almost instantly.

Hi, Im looking for some dvds for my daughter who is two. Her favourites are Barney, Ballamorey, Bear in Big Blue House and Pocoyo. Im living in Ireland but they are so expensive. Between 20 and 30 euro each. Does anyone have any of these that their children have grown out of? Would anyone be willing to send me some? In exchange for a check, which I promise faithfully to send straight away. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

My son is a good child but sometimes he will be a two year old and dump his crayons out onto the floor and refuse to pick them up or he will cry when he doesn't get his way. I have tried re-directing and that works good for when he doesn't get his way but when it comes to him not picking up toys or telling me no and his favorite word now is "shut up", I don't know what to do. If I smack him on the hand or leg or even spank him he just laughs at me and runs off giggling like it is a game. My husband isn't much help in disciplining our son unless it is affecting him somehow. Such as if our son gets into his books. In fact my husband was the one who taught him to say shut up. At at my wits end with this, does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this before it is too late?

She was almost potty trained, and then we had a fire at our home, and the emotional trauma caused a set back. She will be 5 in 6months, so I am wanting to get this done, now.
