I think you are a little over protective. As long as your partner is not pushing so hard that your child is doing the loop-de-loop. they will be fine. After all you child will be the first to complain if they do not like it

Edit,
Good job no one thought that her partner was taking her swinging.....car keys in the middle, etc, etc. That would just be silly and would have no place in a forum like this

I have a daughter around the same age and I would be upset if someone swung her until she was dizzy. While I don't think it would really damage her, it just seems too rough to me. Maybe a compromise would be only doing it once, or going much slower. She can still get dizzy going at a slower pace.

*edit*
It just occurred to me that you might be talking about swinging the child by the arms. In which case I WOULD NOT put up with. Young children's arms and shoulders are pretty delicate. Once a child's elbow or shoulder "pops out" it will usually continue to do so on a regular basis. I know several children that this has happened to. The oldest is now 13 and has problems cheerleading because of it.

How about agreeing to let your child's doctor decide?

The child will let you know if they are unhappy if the swinging is too forceful. Its a great thing to play with your kids, don't ruin it!

edit

Same if its in the park. On the swings the kid doesn't need to be pushed much to put a smile on the tinkers face. Excessive forces can injure a child, but as I said if the child is enjoying it then there is nothing to worry about. The child will let you know when its too forceful.

I have a daughter that is 21 months, and she is very rough. She loves when daddy spins her around. As long as she isn't upset by it, and you don't let her walk by herself while she is dizzy(otherwise she could run into something,or fall and hit her head) she will be fine. People have been doing it for centuries, and I have never heard of anyone getting brain damage from being spun too much!!

well my little cousin has just got a swing for her first birthday which she absolutely loves to pieces. she is fine with it and doesnt get dizzy. all you need to make sure is that you dont push your daughter too high and give her breaks every couple of minute just to get her steady if necessary. i'd say it would b fine though

For a short period babies get a kick out of it. I am with you, though. They are not fully developed at that age. Like, they don't even have knee caps till they are over two so I would think their necks may be a bit wobbly still, too.

My 17 mo old granddaughter loves it, too. My daughter and son in law do it occasionally for short periods but if Lexie looks even the slightest upset they stop. My oldest granddaughter and her (they are 11) friends love to spin her around but have to be told not too much. I worry about whip lash. for real.

Try to relax but ask him to only do it once in awhile and for only a short bit. it is cute to watch dizzy babies try to walk but it is also kind of mean.

PS YOUR baby looks a lot like "my" Lexie. So cute!

stacy you you can tell your fellow to STOP as my aunt is an accident & emergancy nurse and 75% of children come to hospial with a clicking or popping shoulder ( dislocated) sounds bad i know but we've all done it and we thinks its good, children at yours age (2) i would probably leave the swinging till at least 5+

Its very safe so long as you personaly are not drunk and stoned off your head before you take your 2 year old and swing it around.
I was always doing it and i made sure i was not hurting me son's arms.
make sure you keep your ears out to listing to any sound of a tick on the 2 year old's arm's.you could get the arm dislocated from the shoulder's it all depends how hard you do it.
just be sure you want to do it just don't do it if your not wanting to do it.#
do you want me to come over and show you how its done.and trust me the kids love it.
good luck you will be ok so long as the kid don't have a problems with bone's at a very young age.
go on pick the little one up and try it and trust me you wont hurt it.
put your own mind at rest come see me i live round the other end of the world in india so come and see what kids do hang off tree's at a very young age.you will be ok trust me.

i agree with you, although it is safe, my son had this done to him when he was little and it encouraged him to spin himself around which resulted in lots of bumps and bruises, but with my daughter we haven`t done this and she has less accidents. you know whoever is giving her the spin will not put her in any danger has they love her, they will also know when to stop, but we didn`t do this a 2nd time round just to see if it stopped the accidents and her spinning herself which has worked. so surely it is a good thing her not being taut how to do this and cause herself injury.
