How do I handle this and tell him? He can't squeeze his hand or move his thumb or bring his wrist towards him. Can only bend his arm in about a 30 degree angle. I'm worried and scared for him

My son started Kindergarten this year and I'm stunned at the amount of homework he gets. I'm 39, and when I was in that grade, it was all about learning the structure of being in school, starting on the alphabet, maybe some numbers, and lots of coloring and playing. For the first quarter, the goals for my son were knowing all 52 upper and lower case letters, 60 or more "sight words" to memorize, counting forward from 1 to 20, backwards from 10 to 1, and recognizing all numbers up to 10. Also know the sounds of most of the letters of the alphabet, plus shapes, colors, writing his name, and on and on and on. On a regular basis, after 6 hours in school, I am expected to work with him on his "homework" for 2 hours. On top of that, I'm to read to him. He is the first of 3 children entering school, and I can't imagine what it's going to be like a few years from now. He comes home from school with pictures that he's colored and little things he pasted. What are they doing during class? Help!

with bullies? It seems like that the teachers are just letting these things slide and the child that is being picked on suffers in silence because they are embarassed to say anything to their parents. Teachers usually know when a student is being bullied. Do you think that they should be held accountable for not reporting these things. Same thing with bus drivers. I think anyone that works in the school or for the school district in any job should know how to deal with this problem.

I ask this with great sadness and regret but my best friend’s 7 year old daughter died yesterday after a downhill struggle that began after a minor surgery in June. The surgery was supposed to relieve her of two of the minor medical issues she was having. It obviously did not do that.

Her mother is in a real loss of what to due for her funeral. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do to memorialize her? She wants to remember her little girl in a special way and can’t think straight. She doesn't want her baby to be forgotton. Also does anyone know of any songs about the death of a child to play at her funeral?

We are all in utter pain and shock and any help would be gladly appreciated.

Thank you.

whiners
tattle tales
disrespectful/rude
bad mouthed

bossy

I love all kids, but for some reason the disrespectful/rude kids have really got on my nerves lately. My sons best friend is always saying something mean to someone. For example he's always calling my daughter & his sister ugly or stupid..... His rudeness has gotten worse the last couple times he has come over. When he's here I keep telling him I don't allow that kind of talk in my house, but he keeps doing it. Any nice suggestions on how to handle this? I don't want to be too mean to someone elses kid, but I can't allow him to keep talking to my daughter & treating her the way he has.

I just got a message from a friend about a child she is babysitting was watching porn with his father. She doesnt know what to do. The dad doesnt know how to take care of the kids so thats obviously why she is there but the kid tries to touch her and is very rude. The mother already knows this happens.

I believe she should call CPS and get away because the father and son are very weird and I dont want her to get raped or anything. Im a mom myself and I couldnt imagine my son knowing so much about sex at that age!

My daughter rellocated to a new classroom because hers was overcrowded, and I get a very pedophilesque vibe from her new teacher.

What do you think, have you ever felt this way? Do you think it's rational? How did you deal with it? Should I move to another teacher?

My daughter started kindergarten this year and she is utterly exhausted all the time. She was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea about 1 yr ago and she was sent to a specialist. Her adnoids and tonsils were then removed. After starting school, she has become rude, exhausted, "mean faces" all the time, and hardly smiles or laughs any more. She gets about 10 hrs sleep a night, and the school doesn't allow for naps. She gets home and has started with seriously whiney, rude statements until we let her know that is not allowed in the house. She moves with no motivation or speed. Everything takes forever. If we aren't given her constant prompts, she never does anything on time. Kindergarten doesn't seem to be about fun anymore. It seems like it is trying to create little robots and pushing kids a little early. No naps and more of the play equipment has been removed from the school to lessen lawsuits. Lack of rest and fun seem to cause distress. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Lets just say my nine year old daughter definately has a mind of her own and doesn't follow anyone. She has been bugging my husband and I that she wants to shave her hair, not totally bald but basically. She has asked to the point of where she is crying about it.

I really don't want to let her and neither does my husband because she is such a pretty girl. I let my kids dress how they like (as long as it's appropriate) and wear their hair how they like, because I want them to be there own person.

But I just don't know what to do about this, she is super smart so she knows what it will look like and knows she will be stuck with it until it grows out.

What do you guys think? I can't think of any reason really to give her besides, I wouldn't like it. And she really doesn't care what other kids say and she is well liked at school.

My almost 5yr old(boy) is mostly home this year, will start K in Aug 2008. He was in preschool 4 hrs a day, M-F, I changed that to twice a week, 3 hrs. So now, we have tons of time, just him and me.

We already do or have these:
Lincoln logs, Tinker Toys, SuperMind puzzles, crayons/markers/art supplies, puppets, some PBS TV shows, read books(he can read at 1st grade lvl), some fun math (addition..games), soccer, walk and play in different neighborhood parks, library, some children's discovery museum visits, some computer time (starfall.com )
No video games.
Looking for suggestions. What toy, activity, game does your 5 or 6 yr old boy(or girl!) enjoy?

***Any particular toy or game you bought and it was a big hit?
*** Any board game you would recommend?
***Or, just any suggestions on what else to do together? we already read, do art, talk, go for walks, puzzles.

My daughter wants a playground for Christmas. She wants the cheap metal kind that retails for $150. If I took the pieces out of the box, would they be able to fit in the back seat, or will some pieces be too long?

My daughter has a pretty good amount of blonde hair on her legs, and it doesn't really look like baby hair anymore. I don't want her to be self-consious of it, but I'm not sure it is appropriate to shave/nair it yet? Also do you think nair might be a better option for a nine year old, or are the chemicals too harsh for the skin?

My daughter is 9. She is very very bad at sports and she dreads going to school on PE days. Despite best attempts, I don't think she will ever be able to do basic things like forward rolls, handstands, headstands, cartwheels, climb on climbing frames etc. Although she was very badly behind other children in swimming she is now begining to catch up and I think she could be quite good at that; she also has no problems with co-ordination in dancing although she will never make a dancer.

She walked at 16 months and had difficulty going down stairs one foot at a time until she was about 5 or 6.

Where is the dividing line between being bad at sports or having a physical disability? Could she have some undiagnosed disability? What should I do? She is so unhappy as it is affecting her friendships when she can't play with the others in the playground because she can't physically manage their games? I feel so sorry for her.

Can anyone give me some advice?
