1. Ground him. Period.
2. No TV, no video games.
3. No sports participation.
4. Make a calender that he must write his assignments on and ask his teachers to sign it every day. This way you'll know if he has homework or not.
Sounds like he needs a LOT of discipline right now.

First thing you want to be sure of, is whether he has a learning disability. The school should be able to test for that. Second, you need to agree on a plan with the teacher(s) for checking whether he has his assignments written down (each day) and that he brings the things he needs home. Often a notebook that the teacher checks before he leaves school, you check at home and then the teacher checks again in the morning at school is a way to communicate the homework issue. This takes a commitment on both your part and the teacher's. You may be able to find a before or after school program that involves peer mentors....sometimes that helps. Getting your son to care is really the big issue. I wish there was a magic "pill". Good luck.

I suggest you try to homeschooling the boy. Then for sure you will know he is getting his work done. If he does not respond to your teaching, you can hire a tutor to give him his lesson in your home. If he does not like homeschooling, tell him he must shape up if he wants to go back to public. You could take him to school and have him hand his homework into the teacher with you present. Do whatever you need to be sure he gets a proper education, his future depends on it.

Have you met with the school? We are having similar problems with our 4th grader. It may not be anything that he is doing deliberately. Are you sure that it is not ADHD? You should meet with the teachers and your pediatrician.

You might want to talk to him and find out if he's being bullied at school, or if he's feeling depressed. A lot of times, when a kid shows no interest in school, it's because something there is making him hate school.

He needs to have restrictions in his activities until his grades come up. No TV during the week, no computer time (Unless for school), no video games during the week (Or no video games period until his grades come up.) Has he been tested for any learning problems? Have you looked into getting a tutor for him?

I totally agree with Ryans mom. He needs to have limits to fun things as a little nudge to do his work. Without any fun, he will be apt to do the things he needs to in order to recieve his fun time. This should help him.

discipline. Stop playing around and start being serious. Don't be too nice. You're the parent. If not you, who? You are the only one who has the right to do what you have to do to your kid. No one else is gonna do sh** for your kid.
