About 9 or 10 I have noticed is when they get the questioning everything sorta attitude. That's also around the age other kids they may interact with have found out that Santa isn't really and started talking about it.

I think it starts around 8 or so, where children begin to question the idea that santa may not be real. They start to hear from classmates that Santa may not be real, but are not quite ready to let go of the idea yet. I think by 9 or 10 most children know he is make believe.

I think it really depends.
At about age 5 or 6, my mother informed me that particular characters were made up. She decided to break the news before another child could destroy the magic. In doing so she told me that I was ready and could be trusted to keep the secret from the younger kids. I clearly recall thinking I was hot stuff, because I was keeping such a giant secret from all the other kids. However, Santa continued to be embraced in our home and I still loved to go visit him at the mall.
Not really the answer your searching for, but perhaps something you would consider trying if want to easier for your children.

as a teacher, I can tell you that most kids figure it out between the ages of 8 and 11. However, many still pretend to believe long after the really don't. It's part of the fun of being a child!

I am in Australia and I asked around about this. From what I can gather the average age is 10-11 here. Always the exceptions to the rule but on average this is it. Mine will be 9 in March and full of belief

lol, I remember fighting about Santa's existence in 3rd grade, I was a strong believer till I was like 10, when I found presents from "santa" in my parents closet, I was the youngest so I guess they just gave up on being as sneaky. Also, my 6th grade teacher told my whole class that Santa didn't exist and one girl started crying.

i was around 8 when i found a present a few days before christmas marked from santa.. i warned my then 5 yr old sister NOT to tell mom we knew! lol
But my son is an only child and it took longer..
When he turned 10 I thought he still believed and worried about how to tell him...especially after comments like "santa always gets me better presents then you do mom, thats sad"
but the next christmas i overheard him say "i dont know if santa is mom or gramma so i always tell BOTH what i want santa to bring" lol

I was 4 when I learned the truth. :) My parents didn't know I knew but the following year I told them I had seen what happend last year. I'm 23 now and actually having a baby of my own. We still sign a few gifts from Santa just to keep that spirit going. We actually were never big into santa though. Family and Jesus was the real reason we celebrated.
