Definitely remind your son that grades take priority over gaming. What works in our house is a dedicated place/time for homework with no distractions. No tv, no Internet (we never let our daughter online unsupervised anyway). She isn't allowed any of the above or her phone until homework is complete. She isn't allowed to go to soccer or karate either. I wonder, is this just affecting his grades, or his other responsibilities as well? Perhaps instead of using no internet as a punishment, you could use it as a reward, like once homework and chores are done he will be allowed to play again. Maybe you could make up "time tickets" and for each chore he would get a ticket for say, 15 minutes of game play or something like that (depending on his age of course) Hope this helps! : )

Since gaming isnt just for guys :P I'm a gamer and my daughter loves video games as well. I'll answer like it was her. If her grades dropped then simply she wouldnt' be allowed on the computer again till her grades come up and stay up for a grading period...
If the computer was in her room, which its not its in the living room so I can keep an eye on the sites and all visited, it would come out.

The key is moderation, you can prevent grade slipping by controling the amount of time spent on line, making sure homework is compelted and correct before the child gets on line ect.

Our son played games all the time and it was all he thought about. Now he is limited to games only Fri after school until Sunday at 5pm....At first it was hard, but it's been accepted and his grades are definitely showing a huge improvement!

Well, first i would either block that site, tell him 4 every a or b he would have a limited time on that site, or have him do productive stuff. Find fun websites to subsitute the bad ones. like frogguts.com. there you can virtually dissect a frog. or also kidwings. there u can dissect owl pellets and learn about owls. If that doesnt work for you, you can take him to a park after homework and studying. There he can shoot some hoops and other productive things. Best of luck!

My son wouldn't be playing addicting games on the interent because I'd be right there supervising his activities on the internet.

make a rule for every 20 minutes of school work or reading he gets 20 minutes on the computer. if he gets A's on report cards he can earn extra time. you can use his addiction to your advantage by making these kind of deals with him. If he really wants to play then he must earn the time to do it.

I'd disallow my son's use of the computer. It's a pretty simple solution.

Let the kid have some fun and freedom...lets him play some games. Mabye if you werent so strict he wouldent do things you dont want him to do behind your back.

Block the site. Tell him when he gains a more productive focus he can have limited time on that site. I did it with my brother but more for my computer's security then his grades.
