Would you consider sending your child to after school care if they had to ride the bus to get there?

My 7 yr old son is always getting notes sent home that he talks too much fools around too much and doesn't listen. I've tried taking away TV for the night or the computer for a week, Video games are gone for good. He still doesn't stop talking or listen when he's told to do something or stop doing something. He's broke and crushed all his crayons, he's doodled on his worksheets. He can do the work he just would rather talk and not do what he's told. He's not that bad at home but I do see him getting worse than he was. It's at the point where he comes home and goes straight to his room. Am I being too strict? I've tried to talk things out with him and he knows exactly what he did wrong and why it was wrong but when the "why did you do it" question is asked the answer is always "I don't know". It's getting to the point where I'm missing out on doing stuff with my only son because he's always punished. What should I do?

My daughter is almost 6 and weighs 55 llbs. but she is also extremely tall. She has always been the biggest one in her classes but her weight is very proportionate and she is active in soccer, gymnastics, and tennis. She is just built bigger, but she also has a 7 yr old sister who is very small for her age. I am 5'3" and pretty small...always have been and her dad is 6ft, about 190. She is beautiful, but the comments she gets sometimes are so hurtful and since I've never had to deal with these issues, I don't know how to handle this in a positive manner. Kids don't say much very often, but she is now realizing that she is just bigger, not really even fat, just tall and bigger. She was in a class where she was the oldest (by almost a year) and of coarse big for her age as well and that's when her concern (and mine) began. How can I help her be more confident?

Characteristics like a strong private side and a 'poker face' when emotional? Even though this child appears happy and has many friends. This child not talking about deep personal feelings, mind you this child is in grade one.

Not when joking around, just when having emotions. Like a christmas concert, and is excited, but keeps a poker face. Or doesn't want to talk to parents about most problems. I am wondering mostly about grade 1's

I have in the past babysat for my brother-in-law and his wife. At first it was at the beginning of the school year, after school until 10 pm at night. The children are 12 and 8, although major tutoring was needed with both (both were held back), dinner and nightly baths. I charged $20 a night, for the 6 hours. They don't make or rather manage their money too well, and we have gone as far as buying the children school supplies and clothes. Now, the brother in law has obtained a new job (pays less, after he just "quit" on a whim the other one) and now has asked to babysit during the day which is 8 hours, breakfast and lunch, and will so conveniently go to 2nd shift when school begins, that they will not have to deal with the childrens school work. Long story. What in your opinion would be a fair amount per hour or daily for family members, that live paycheck to paycheck? I would do it for free, it our finances could afford it, but we have 2 children ourselves we are raising.

How should a parent handle this? If you raise your child to believe in Santa, eventually he/she will find out he is not real and the child could be really hurt about this. I know a kid who then questioned, "Is Jesus fake too then?!?" But on the other hand, if you raise your child to know that Santa is not real, he is just a symbol of Christmas, then he/she may go to school and say it around the other kids who do believe in Santa and hurt their feelings. Any opinions on this???

My 6 year old son has been very distant lately. For the past 2 months, I've notice my son sitting in his room alone but often seems that he's carrying on a conversation with someone. I know that toddlers usually go through that, but my son never was like that until recently. He never wants to play with other kids. He always wants to remain in his room alone. He just finished kindergarden and will be entering 1st grade in September. What can this mean?? Why would he start now?? Should I be concerned?
