My daughter is 6, and just finished kindergarten. There is no way that I would have sent her to after school care. I have family or only good friends take care of my child. I pick her up and take her to school too. Too many chances of preverts around.

Sure. My son use to ride the bus to his afterschool daycare center. The only reason he doesn't now is because he is no longer in afterschool care. My Son did this from Kindergarten thru 3rd grade.

i work at a child care center that has before and after school care for school age children. there are children from different schools in the area. i am the one who usually gets the children on thier designated bus every morning. and thier teacher at the center after school is there waiting for them when they get off the bus.
i say if you trust that your son will be responsible enough to get on the bus after school to go to the center, then yes.. let him... if you are worried, wait another year or so.

Well if its the school bus or the bus for afterschoolers then its no problem but the city bus no its not a good idea unless he goes with someone older.

Yes,as long as the afterschool program assumes all responsibilty from the school to the afterschool program.
Check if the school your child attends offers a program or find out their opinion on the afterschool program you are considering.

It depends on the child, if you think that at the age of 5 he can get there with no problems, then go for it.

I would not send a child unless you knew the bus driver really well. I think it is a unnecessary risk.

As for the transportation issue, I do not see that as a problem, and if concerned talk to the driver/and/or after school program to inquire about the driver and their qualifications. I guess my other question would be what type of after school program and do you see it beneficial for you child's needs.
