My childrens school has a problem with headlice. Are there any preventative measures I can take so they don't catch them?

in answer to your question Georgiemi74...
the school used to have a policy where they had a headcheck every term. This seemed to work until some families didn't want to have a headcheck and the school and health dept. said that for the headcheck to work Everybody had to participate. So now no headcheck and a really bad lice problem!!

Use Tea Tree oil in the shampoo. It is in the nature section of your grocery store. It is fairly pricy but it works. Just dump the whole thing in any brand of shampoo or you can buy the shampoo with it already in it. It is natural so it won't hurt anyone.

Always tie the hair back
Don't share brushes hats scarves
tell them not to play with other kids hair
I also make a spray. Get a 100ml spray bottle, fill with water add 4 drops of Geranium oil3 of lavender and 3 of tea tree oil (all must be 100% pure)
Spray this on the hair everyday lice hate the smell.
Only wash the hair once a week (preferably Friday nights) as they love clean hair

Do not share combs, brushes, towels, bedding, hats or clothing with other kids.

Ask the teacher to provide a separate spot for each child's belongings.

Avoid sharing costumes, and headgear/helmets. Use disposable shower caps or inexpensive liners when headgear/helmets must be worn by different children.

Assign sleeping mats and bedding to only one person and store these separately.

The only thing known for keeping away head lice is dirty hair although it sounds preety weird the more you wash your hair everyday the more risk you have of catching head lice so pile on the dirt!

Don't have them wash their hair too often. Lice like CLEAN hair. You can also have them use gel or mousse on the days they wash their hair.

lice likes clean hair so girls are more prone. so what you do is put moose, gel or hairspray in there hair and it will keep them away. and also tell them not to share brushes etc... well that is what my stylist says

If you have girls, pull their hair back and use lots of hairspray. (you can try the hairspray for a boy). Explain to them not to use other peoples combs and brushes, hats, or clothing as well.
