My son is on strattera, 30 mg a day. He has ADHD, with other tendencies. (like being bipolar and ocd) He picks his fingers, peeling all the skin off the tips. Is this a normal part of this disorder?

My son waas onStraterra for 3 years. You have to keep an eye on their weight and dosage my son's weight was more than the required dosage for his age so we had to play around with correct dosage. Consult your physician, and report any odd behaviors. Luckily my son is starting to show signs of restraint on his own at 11. And is no longer taking his medications.

We tried Strattera and moved on to Metadate (more like regular Ritalin). I forgot why Strattera did not work. I think the side effects were disturbing. Picking fingers is normal for OCD. You need separate medication for OCD and bi-polar than what you take for ADHD, and they can do wonders. For example, Effexor, Zoloft, Abilify, Depakote.

Stattera for only a short time before moving on to another one. picking at his fingers sounds familar, part of the ticks. My son is ADHD and his father refused medication for him... I am left to deal with him.... He has changed alot since in 5 years not as bad but still needs help. . Best of luck

Definitely talk to the doctor. Strattera works great for some, not so much for others. Don't give up!

I know someone that has an ADHD child her doctor told her the side effects were worse than Ridilin. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about this, it sounds like it is a nervous problem also.

My daughter shredded paper. Now she (at 20) peels labels off everything. I am AD and I pick at my cuticles till they bleed. I think this kind of behavior is normal.
