I've got some concerns regarding my credit history. I've got terrible credit now and have been in collections before. What kind of problem will this be for obtaining a security clearance?

Does it help to pay them off/begin to do so? I've been broke for a very long time and have literally not been able to pay what I need to.

I've looked over the 'net and can't find more information on Security Clearances than I've already seen and this question remains to be answered. This is for the Air Force, by the way, and is regarding Pararescue or Airborn Linguist specifically.

Thank you everybody for your help.

I heard on the radio today that a 4th grade teacher in Sarasota Florida will celebrating Veterans Day Monday by honoring;

Conscientious Objectors.

When a set of parents, both Veterans objected to their son being taught this, the Principal said he could not interfere in what the teacher was teaching in her classroom. The parents requested that he be placed in a different 4th grade class for the day on Monday.

As a parent how would you have handled this situation?

The U.S. investigated her trip to Vietnam and found no reason to bring any charges against her.

In spite of the truth, I’ve never heard, and read more right wing lies, and pure war rumors, doctored stories, and cowardly right wing gossip spread about anyone else in history. Furthermore, virtually all POW stories are complete (relentless) fabrications, and where any merit can be found, for “aid and comfort to the enemy” pales in comparison to the fact that a lone civilian woman, did more than anyone else to end the hopeless American waste in Vietnam. To top that, Jane Fonda shortened the duration of the war, and the torture of POWs.

Shameless fabrications

Bits and pieces of shameless fabrications, were cobbled together by persons unknown to create the "Hanoi Jane" diatribe which still circulates on the Internet today.

For persistent pro war activists, who like to claim that anything good ever came of Vietnam, keep in mind that today Vietnam is in fact 100% Communist.

While I was in Iraq, we transported our trucks and equipment over on a naval vessel. When we were done we came home and all of our equipment came with us...so my question is...why did the US government shipping our equipment back and forth overseas instead of leaving it there for the soldiers who were replacing us.

A few notes...

1. When we returned our trucks were transferred to another unit and then deployed 2 months later

2. When we left Iraq our trucks were in 100% working order and in fact our maint. section held the highest mission capable equipment status in Iraq from the time we got there until we came home.

3. Our trucks had already been fitted with gun-boxes, steel plated doors, and other mission essential equipment.

So...why exactly did we ship it all home and leave the people who replaced us with their p.o.s. trucks ?

I have a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Financing with a minor in Economics. I am 26 y.o., married, not a U.S. Citizen but a permanent resident instead. I recently joined the NAVY, and yes as of now I am only an EM ( electrician's mate, mainly because of my alien status, I cannot do a lot of jobs, nor become an officer). Later when that changes, I want to switch to being either a Master-at-Arms or Seal, and even as an EM I will apply for IA (individual augmentee - so I can go to Iraq to help these kids). People (AMERICAN CITIZENS) have a hard time understanding why I have a lot and I would give it all up for this country, that gave me an opportunity to come go to school educate myself -with 1 bachelor and 3 associates degrees- and become a part of the population, also gave the chance to make the money I make now. Yes I won't be anything but an E-3 coming in, but I WILL TAKE A BULLET FOR THIS COUNTRY!

I'm leaving for Iraq in a few months and I want to get my mom a gun for home protection while i'm gone. My mom is about 5'4 and not exactly very strong so she can't really handle something like a Desert Eagle but is there something that's reasonably easy to handle yet lightweight that I can look up for her? Thanks

I realize I asked this in the military section, but I assumed that the people in this section may have more experience with firearms than anybody answering in the other categories..

In light of this statement, do you think it's right that he is now advising Bush and Cheney on the Iraq war?

After seeing the Marines at school today, I have considering whether or not I should sign up. I am healthy and have no medical issues. So, what do you guys think about joining the military this late in the game. Stats: no kids, no husband, and live alone.

Okay, I have the utmost respect for ALL Marines and Army men and women. But, I've seen so many times that "Marine Infantrymen are better than Army Infantrymen, and even Army Special Forces"

I understand that Marine Boot Camp is longer and more intense than Army BCT. BUT not everoyne in the Army will be an infantryman. Army has AIT also.

About the Special Forces thing...no offense but I HIGHLY doubt a Marine Recruit could best a Army SF or Ranger...sorry

Sorry, but does anyone agree that they are all basically equal at what they do? Or is it just a pride thing for all Marines to ramble off about how amazingly awesome they are (I'm not doubting it)

No flaming please, just my take on all of the opinions! I love the Military, I am just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Veterans make up one in four homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11 percent of the general adult population, according to a report to be released Thursday.

And homelessness is not just a problem among middle-age and elderly veterans. Younger veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are trickling into shelters and soup kitchens seeking services, treatment or help with finding a job.
