Okay, I have the utmost respect for ALL Marines and Army men and women. But, I've seen so many times that "Marine Infantrymen are better than Army Infantrymen, and even Army Special Forces"

I understand that Marine Boot Camp is longer and more intense than Army BCT. BUT not everoyne in the Army will be an infantryman. Army has AIT also.

About the Special Forces thing...no offense but I HIGHLY doubt a Marine Recruit could best a Army SF or Ranger...sorry

Sorry, but does anyone agree that they are all basically equal at what they do? Or is it just a pride thing for all Marines to ramble off about how amazingly awesome they are (I'm not doubting it)

No flaming please, just my take on all of the opinions! I love the Military, I am just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

First of all, of course a Army SF, SpecOps, or Ranger would as you put it "best a Marine Recruit. Hello, RECRUIT. You can't compare the two.
The Marines are first and foremost "rifleman". If you had a combat challenge between all 4 branches "elite" forces, they will all perform the way the are supposed and expected too, outstandingly. Many military experts believe that the Navy SEALs are the best.
BTW, sat nov 10th is the United States Marine Corp's 232 birthday.
Oh yeah, the whole we're better than you are between each service member is just pure fun. I have every bit of admiration for the Marines, Army and Air Force.
Last saturday, Navy finally beat Notre Dame after 43 consecutive losses.
Also, sunday nov 11 is Veterans Day. If you know a veteran, please thank them for the service and sacrifices made on their behalf to keep our nation safe and free.

Look back at answers and most of the talk about Marine standard infantry being better then Rangers or Special Forces are not Marines with any experience if Marines at all. I do think that standard Marine infantry is better then standard Army infantry and that is because of the training and esprit. That point was even made by an Army general a year or so back who was the commander who explained the higher loss ratio of Marines (percent killed/wounded against total deployed) by stating he used them as assault troops in the worst areas because they were better at that then standard Army troops and then let the Army troops hold the area after the assault was finished. Rangers and Special Forces are much better trained then standard Army infantry; some Marines go through the Range course every year and have consistently performed better with a much lower drop rate then those Army infantry selected to go which again would be an indicator of the average against the average.

I agree for the most part... at least when it comes to the Army and Marines, the other two are definitely not equal to Army and Marines, but that's because they do something completely different... one fights from the air and the other from sea. But yes, the Army and Marines are basically equal. No a Marine recruit is not the same as a Ranger or Green Beret, but Marine Recon is very close (although I can't say for sure since I don't know much about the Marine Recon forces). It's all a matter of pride and a pissing contest that nobody wants to give up. Bu pride is ok and so is competitiveness and it will always exist between the Army and Marines.

I say a Armed Forces member is still putting their lives on the line. No matter which branch they join. Sometime one branch may do things differently than others, does that make them better?
My basic was 18 weeks long. They mixed in AIT with it. So to say that Marine basic is longer or better, it all depends.

All service members get my respect.

The Army is willing to admit when something is better than them and are known for giving credit when credit is due. the Marines seem to think that they are the only armed forces that do anything right and are quick to put down the Army, and the Navy theyre military mom and dad

actually this makes sense but this kind of competition exists between the Marine recruits and Army recruits in my area solely for motivation to improve our pt scores.

Also it is unfair to match an Army Ranger to a Marine infantryman. It is fair to match them against a Recon Marine and/or an SF soldier to a MARSOC Marine.

I would say they are equal. Army is out longer then the marines are, so they have to emotionally be stronger at times. They are all in it for the same cause, I just can't wait till' the boys can come back home. Miss you all.

so, you don't want to be flamed? your whole question is a flame. the facts are these, if you have ever been in the Marines and trained with the Army then you already know the answer to this question. If you've ever been in the Army and trained with the Marines then you already know the answer to this question, but your too embarrassed to admit the truth.

It's a matter of personal pride and some joking... Ultimately, anyone in the military today who is worth their salt knows that joint forces is the way of the future and that ALL branches are necessary for success in the battlefield.

For the person that states the Navy fights from the sea, not all Navy fights from the sea how about the seals they deploy from the sea but fight where ever they are sent and this includes their Marine brothers....
