Study, study, study. Talk to other petty officers within your rate to see if they have any advice for you. If you are an E3 in February, then I think you'll have to wait until September (possibly even the following March) to take the E4 exam, rather than take it that March.

Good luck!

you must have time in Grade before you can take the E4 exam. whether or not you make E4 depends on the final multiple and your score and how many they need to promote each cycle. study the Pubs from top to bottom inside and out and backwards and forwards. make sure you can do PMS in your sleep.

BTW.Officers require a 4 year degree. If you do not have that, you will NOT be going to OCS.

Become a "Push-Button" E4. I was promoted automatically to E4 after my A School (Fire Controlman), with less than 1 year in the Navy. Made E5 with just over 2 years of service.

you still need your time in grade before you can even take the test for E-4. Check with your LPO and Division Officer if they could give your any suggestions to check points and better evals so you have a better chance. Any extra jobs they want done do them, go the extra mile. Do qual book above your pay grade, its shows them your a team player.

Study real hard. Unless you get high scores on advancement tests, kiss OCS good bye.

Good luck. I had, on average, a lot more respect for the mustangers I knew, than most of those Acadamy creeps I had to deal with.
