Silly question. We have military at bases all over the world and get this they are overseas. If you meant Iraq and Afghanistan clarify because we always have soldiers over seas.
Our soldiers are in Afghanistan because of the resurrgance of the Taliban and Al-Queda. They are still in Iraq until the Iraqi government is capable enough to maintain their country.

I think you're asking why are our soldiers still in Iraq, right? A total pull-out would be a big disaster for those who have to live there, and are trying to pull their lives together with the new government they've got. It's kinda hard to get things working good when there are a bunch of people who don't want the new government in power, and are blowing up everyone & everything in their way. A gradual withdrawal is the best way to pull out of a situation, so that the whole operation doesn't become a big waste of time, and lose all the ground that they've gained. It takes time to stabilize a country that's been rocked by inner turmoil. I've seen how grateful the people are over there, for our presence. The mainstream media don't show ALL the truth of what's really going on over there. I've heard the stories of how the people clap and cheer when the soldiers go by. They are very grateful for the help. It's only the opposition that wants them gone. It's unfortunate, but I don't think things will ever be smoothed out over there. That part of the world has been fighting for hundreds of years. I feel sorry for those who are caught in the middle, and just want to raise their families safely. <*)))><

America has had soldiers overseas continuously since before the begining of WWII. We are a large nation which engages in international trade and international politics, we have allies and interests all over the globe. We will always have some military personel in other countries, even if /mostly/ by invitation.

Plain and simple its because our mission has not been completed! To anyone who thinks its for other reasons is an idiot and should not speak on things they know nothing about. Sweetie, it is hard for a civilian to understand why soldiers are still in Iraq and there is a lot that can not be discussed. Although I understand your concern and curiousity, I feel the need to ask you to continue supporting our troops for as long as we are there or any where else.

Because the job isn't done yet, they will come home from Iraq and Afganistan when they finish what they were sent there for...Or when the cry babies in this country and yellow bellys in Washington recall them which ever comes first. Mother of three active duty service members with 1 currently deployed to the sand box. And very proud of our troops and their families. You wouldn't have the right to ask this question if we didn't have troops deployed to protect our FREEDOM AS FREEDOM ISN'T FREE.....

Define "overseas"
We've had troops stationed on foreign soil since WWII. Germany, England, Japan, Korea, Spain, Italy, and other places as well. They're there for forward power projection and rapid global deployment to meet threats.
or were you refering to deployed soldiers?

Bcause those in charge of the government feel the conflict over there is unresolved and we will remain there until it is.
