I'm considering joining a branch after I graduate with my Bachelor's degree. I'm hung up between joining the Navy or the Coast Guard.

My reasons for joining of course include things like serving my country, an opportunity to travel, and gaining confidence...but I also have to look at the financial and career benefits as well.

I know the Navy will pay back my federal student loans...but will the Coast Guard?

I'd like to go into law enforcement (which is what my degree is for), so which one is more likely to get me there?

Thanks!

Not to mention any troops at all, but Special Forces? They have their own version of SAS and SBS right? ... I seriously doubt there as good as British special ops, or American special ops... but why do they need them,

I read on the goarmy.com website that Special Forces now recruits civilians for the first time in however long it said... and a recruiter told me that they did too... but I talked to a guy on the internet playing SOCOM that used to be in the military, and he said that Special Forces doesn't recruit civilians, and you have to already be in the military for a while to qualify, and he said the recruiters were lying to me to get me to join... now I know the recruiters have a job, and have to put a little icing here and there... but I doubted that they flat out lie about stuff to get recruits... so what do I believe?

Happy Veterans Day to all my fellow vets out there.

Now my question, for to me, it seems a little wierd. Nov 11th is Veterans Day, celebrated on Nov. 12th for most.

Government offices close.

Hmmm....their not veterans.

Schools are out.

Not even of age to be veterans there.

WTF!?!

It seems to me, that most 'veterans' are middle class workers who DON'T get Veterans Day off! Doesn't that seem a little odd to anyone? Who are we honoring here when you take the day off from work or school? The guy you sent to work?

"Let's all take today off from work and school and honor these heros by...sending their A$$ to work!!"

Wierd.

I went awol from my basic training company on Nov 11, 2007. Im only 17 years old. I left because i injured my back and the doctors just jerked me around, not giving proper treatment. I tried to do get out the right way, but i just kept hitting brick walls. My drill sergeant wouldnt ELS me or nothing. Emotionally i was a mess, i was having panic attacks and nervous breakdowns. I couldnt eat, and i could barely sleep becauase of the pain from the injury i sustained. I went awol from ft. benning on november 11th and am trying to figure out how to get this skeleton out of my closet. I am going to a civillian specialist to receive proper care for my back. I have no desire to remain in the army. my drill sergeants tell everyone to just go awol, so i did, can anyone tell me how much **** im in, and how i can fix it quickly?

( wasnt alive in the others) I know there were and are other branches involved and in the front lines such as the army but I hardly ever hear people mention them or when they come home I never see it on the news. Only the marines. Im sure its mentioned some where but not as often.

Hi I am currently wondering which is the best military service for education benefits. I am currently looking into the Army National Guard or the Navy reserves. I know that the guard pays for 100% of your schooling and I know that reserves does not, but does the reserves have any other incentives that the guard does not. So what is the best route for me. Oh and dont bother telling me not to join because I'm going to no matter what anyone says, its my choice and I'm going to do. Thank you

Instinctively I'd say yes, but I'm just checking. I wouldn't think of jet fighters as being made to combat helicopters, but instead other jets.... so hence my doubt.
