He's 28, was recently down-sized and is now contemplating joining the military. It seems like the Navy and Marines would be the best fit (in my estimation at least) so what should he do now? Start checking out the ASVAB? Contact a recruiter? I don't want him getting jerked around so I'd rather not deal with a loser recruiter but rather someone who knows what they are doing. Oh, and we live in Leavenworth, KS.

It seems to be taken for granted that we do not operate like a banana republic; that there are checks and balances that make the U.S. different. But, what are they? If the one with the biggest stick wins, wouldn't that be the most influential U.S. military leader? If the military marched into the White House and told Bush to get out, what could he do?
It seems like a sophomoric question but I've never heard an answer.

I think it is as they always win, no matter the odds, they always kill first shot, there is never any "blue on blue" mistakes, and, this is the clincher, there is never any "collateral" damage, i.e. no civilians get killed by the Unit. Seems a total fantasy, like Battlestar Galactica or such.
