Land-mines, depending on the size, or model, traditionally, are designed to maim and not kill.
The math works out for a soldier with a foot, feet, leg, or legs blown off, 4 men will be required to carry a stretcher.
It is also a weapon that demoralizes troops because they can be hard to detect.
