Happy Veterans Day to all my fellow vets out there.

Now my question, for to me, it seems a little wierd. Nov 11th is Veterans Day, celebrated on Nov. 12th for most.

Government offices close.

Hmmm....their not veterans.

Schools are out.

Not even of age to be veterans there.

WTF!?!

It seems to me, that most 'veterans' are middle class workers who DON'T get Veterans Day off! Doesn't that seem a little odd to anyone? Who are we honoring here when you take the day off from work or school? The guy you sent to work?

"Let's all take today off from work and school and honor these heros by...sending their A$$ to work!!"

Wierd.

I told my boss last week that Monday was Veterans Day. He knows I'm former-USMC.

His reply, "So?"

conranger1, this isn't a rant. I just thought it was wierd.

jack, not everyone gets a 'day off' every week. Is it so wrong that I ask for Veterans Day off to spend time with my family on THIER day off? This isn't about 'one Marine', it's about ALL vetrans.

ZOO, I am not part of the Something-For-Nothing generation. I served! So, in fact, I gave SOMETHING. Years of my life, alot of pain, empty holidays and a bucket of blood. Is that 'nothing' to you? Don't get me started on your disrespecting nitwit attitude because you feel threatened someone might get something you want, that don't deserve.

While I don't think everyone should have the day off I really feel that veterans have earned it. Of anyone they are the ones that should be treated as special and allowed a day of their own. The rest of us should still have to go to school and/ or work. Obviously not everyone can have it off or the country would come to a stand still. My fiance is a vet and is at work now. I actually found myself thinking it was unfair as he left. But not a word of complaint from him. Servicemen and vets are a breed apart. Not everyone has forgotten that!

Happy Veterans Day everyone. May Heavenly Father watch over the young men who are currently risking their lives!

Um, I thought Serving my Country was my benefit not a day off hell I get enough of those anyway at least 1 a week. Oh That's right I forgot I am in the middle of the Something for Nothing Generation. Just Remember the 4th Army Core Value "Selfless Service" and you should be OK, If not take a sick day and watch "Saving Pvt Ryan" or "Blackhawk Down"

I could do without the holiday. As a (never deployed) military member I feel as if we already get enough days off for frivolous things as it is.

Any time of any day we can honor our accomplishments and our fathers heroisms. We don't need a specific day away from work. In fact I'd much rather be doing my military job than be here on yahoo...

Veterans day is a past time to alot of people. It's only when the "people" NEED help from vets, firefighters, police officers when they really do appreciate their service. HOW freakin sad

Yeah, lets all celebrate feel sorry for a marine day! Since more marines get their butts shot off than any other service branch! But only feel sorry for the ones that were drafted,because the marines today are all in there by choice. These nitwits volunteered for what ever happens to them. They have no one to blame but themselves. No one ordered them to sign on the dotted line yet they all feel they have some extra entitlement coming to them for some damn reason!

Your Rant over? its a day late and a dollar short :-P

For The Fallen.

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Laurence Robert Binyon, 1869-1943.

Happy Veterans Day to all of you, too.

FWIW, I didn't get the day off either. But that's okay, too.

If I didn't have the time off from school to appreciate the veterans I also wouldn't have the time to read your question. Therefore, we all win.
