In this war happening now and in past wars that I have read about. ( wasnt alive in the others) I know there were and are other branches involved and in the front lines such as the army but I hardly ever hear people mention them or when they come home I never see it on the news. Only the marines. Im sure its mentioned some where but not as often.
WHy is that?

BTW: This is not intended to show any kind of disrespect to the marines. I love them and appreciate all they are doing or have done I was just asking.

Because they are supposed to be the best yet my dad was a navy seal and they do things in water and on land that marines would never dream of attempting. The seals are the hardest thing to achieve and even marines will tell you that.

I don't think people only think of the Marines. I think the reason it seems that way is because with the recent conflict in Iraq, the Marines are the ones taking the most casualties. Since their being hit the hardest and have some scandals (alleged civilian incidents) associated with them, they're being focused on the most by the media. But as someone stated earlier, all branches serve an important role and work together. For example, most Marine units have a Navy Corpman(medic) attached to their units.

I doubt that you hear mostly about marines but I suppose you are in a Marine-Navy part of town thats why your local news cover mostly navy marines. But the biggest branch and casualties by far is the United States Army. Marines are probably doing the most crucial work and are per capita doing more dangerous work then any other branch. The Marines are trained to do these things and per capita they are the toughest branch. The marines are by far more specialized then any other branch to do front line work like recon and attacking enemy positions. The Army has most of its people in support units, medical units, supply, they create the theater of operations and the Marines execute the battle.

Haven't noticed. It seems each branch gets equal exposure to me, except maybe the Coast Guard. Perhaps you're subconsciously keyed into the Marines somehow, causing you to notice every time they are mentioned while not noticing when other branches are mentioned. Or perhaps there is a Marine base near where you live, and therefore Marines actually get more coverage in your area.

The Marines is the most active, disciplined and effective fighting force in the Armed Forces. Thus, people always talk about the Marines when referring to the military.

Ok I know this answer becasue my BF was a marine in Iraq and he was one of the first to invade......! They are always the first into combat and theirfore get the most recognition ok for example during WWI the marines did battle in germany and succeded against unmeasurable odds the germans called them devil dogs because of their fierceness in battle........ In WWII the Marines where the ones that first took action against Japan after pearl harbor and eventually succedded in the pacific bad by causeing the bloodiest battle of WWII in Tarawa and also the raising of the flag in Iwo Gima that is imortalized in every americans minds in Korea the fought numerous chineese in the froze chosin resivoir and took control over overwelming odds......... They took charge in Vietnam and caused mass casualties for the enemy...........In desert storm they where on edge to go to battle hence the movie Jar Head......... I knosovo they where the first to see combat against Serbian forces......... In Iraq they where the first to invade with the 3rd Infantry Division in an Nasayriya where my BF was and they fought just as fierce as those Marines who came before they are raised trained and taught that they come from a long line of arriors before them and they do not want to let the Marines who came before them down no matter the cost .............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a duty to their country and to the Marines who came before......!

After serving in the military I don't think solely of Marines. It takes all branches to get the job done. They all need each other.

The Marines tend to be on the FRONT of the front lines. First in. So, they get a lot of attention for being the ballsiest of our military.
