Is it against military policy to shake the left hand of an Arab? Please explain.

I suspect that poorer individuals cannot afford toilet paper or do not see logic in spending the money on it.
Cultural tradition would make it inappropriate for an American or Arab to touch left hands.
The key is just to be careful with that left-hand. I'm curious thinking about it how Hepatitis A and other fecal oral diseases are not more common. Oh, wait there is such a thing as hand sanitizer and soap.

On my last tour to Iraq, I was an advisor to the Iraqi army. In the area where we operated, the majority of bathrooms at homes were a separate building outside the home. They used running water to cleanse themselves after going, and were actually quite clean. Cleaner than a lot of people here in America. The also did not use toilets as we do, they squatted over a hole, kinda shaped like a bedpan. I cannot tell you if this is the norm in all muslim countries.

There are a lot of different customs in this world.....bare handed @ss wiping though isn't one of them....perhaps if you got out from behind your computer, did some traveling you'd learn to appreciate the differences out in the world.

hello, it is not true. they WASH their @ss with the left hand. BTW they either use water or toilet paper. Notice that in the mideast hotels you are instructed not to flush the toilet paper and rather dispose it into specialized litter bin, because of restricted pipe diameter. they wash instead, which is by the way far more hygienic than the using of toilet paper.

Your posts have very little if anything to do with military.
And no they don't use there bare left hand any more than you do.

no it isnt true. In water poor countries with little or no sewage systems it is very hard to find toilet paper and you have to use a water hose to clean off. It has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with ecology and economy.
grow up or get out of the gene pool.
