We are stationed at Fort Riley but my husband has not been overseas and wishes to volenteer to go but can not get anyone to tell him how he can find out if a unit needs him. If anyone knows please let me know, there are sooo many soldiers over there for the second and third time and he just wants his chance to do his duty and let some of them stay home. Oh he is a light wheel macanic.

My great aunt and her husband durring the 1940's went to kuwait and Iraq, because he worked for an oil company, they brought back some prayer rugs and some large brass serving trays for feasts (one is about 4 feet across) they brought back some swords too, one in particular is unique, is is about a 1.5 feet long it is made of steel with a curved blade, it has a steel sheath as well, when you pull it out of the sheath the blade springs out into 3 seperate blades, it has been hand etched over the entirety of the sword/sheath with pictures of muslim men in turbans (some have what looks like crowns on their heads) kneeling and it looks like they are praying with their arms crossed, the artwork looks similar to the style that Europe used durring the dark ages. the sword is in good shape just some surface discoloration, has anyone ever seen/know of something like this? Any idea as to the age of this sword, thanks in advance, we have no antique specialsist in Yakima Wa. where I live.

I remember seeing a P-38 for the first time in my C rations in basic training. I thought that was the coolest thing to have on a keychain. If I still had one i'ld probably eat a lot more canned food. Are those still military issue?

I disagree with the general consensus of almost everyone that answered my question. My thoughts are that when we pull all troops out, Iraq will be taken over by insurgents from both Syria and Iran. They will stop at nothing, and because of the weak-willed Iraqis that we've been protecting and training will not have the will to fight, the country will be taken over. This is exactly how I remember the last days of VietNam, of which I was there and am a Vet.

Hitler couldn't even get over 18 miles of water to beat the British, which had no military left in 1941. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor for the same reason, Bin Laden pulled of 9/11, a total failure of the USA Government and Air safety. Waht are people thinking, that Japan would have attacked us with elephants over the Bering street?

I am the medic for our RSP, and I have to get my orders to my Finance NCOIC, perosnally. They never send them over from RSP. I would like to print them out, so I could just fill out my 1351-2 (Travel Voucher) and have it ready for when I go to my usual drill instead of getting there and having to find the time to get this all squared away each and every drill.

My unit (regular, active army) is forcing attendance to an event after normal duty hours and at which alcohol will be served. I understood at one time that no event can be mandatory if alcohol is being served, and I would like to be excluded from the event because I dislike being around drunk people. I also desperately need a regulation reference to help combat this problem. Any help is appreciated because I just get the "suck it up and drive on soldier" answer from my NCO support channel and chain of command and I would really like to avoid the vindictive issues that arise from going to the Inspector General. Thanks.

We can look at other nations and see that their history's of warfare pale in comparison to our own. Most of the other industrial nations of the world have been involved in a war since World War Two. However, the US, through-out its history, has had a "war" about every fifteen years (I use the term "war" here loosely since we have not again declared war since December 8, 1941).

Could the answer lie in the fact that, currently, the US spends more on defense than the following ten nations COMBINED. Thereby, the US feels it must get some "bang" for its buck? Or that the Military Industial Complex must give itself reason for being? Hmm...

I thought I was the only one having problems with it. Its a piece of junk. Now a lot of soldiers are finally complaining about it. Vietnam vets are saying they almost died because of it jamming so easily. I bet some people have. No country in the world uses them except the one's that can't afford to buy them so we give them out for free. The AK-47 is the rifle of choice. Is it because we are too ashamed to use a Russian designed weapon?

OK , no two word answers like "we can't:" or "we will". No overly simplified answers (try for a few paragraphs at least). There are some people on these boards who think because their question is about the war in Iraq, it should go in the military instead of just plain political section.
So, get ready to burn some brain cells...
How would you win the war in Iraq? Try to be as detailed as possible, like which sects and tribes and militias do you work with first? How do you overcome centuries of different groups hating eachother? And you can't just pull out, too many economic and political problems that will cause that we will just have to go back a clean up later. So we have to finish what has been started. And you can't go back in time and do something over. As of now, how do you win the war in Iraq?
Come on you armchair and not so armchair generals, let us have it!
And try to have fun with this. By the way, answering this question well will probably require some research.

In my opinion...it is their fault to even go there when they clearly know this is an unstable country to do such work. They should take full responsibility for it. We are not responsible for others stupidity.
