Lets see....short of actually going to war...deciding you want to be harrassed for 28 hours a day, 9 days a week....all with the sole intent of "breaking you".
former jar-head? Nope....Just former paratrooper, ranger qualified, SF. Still wouldn't volunteer for that.

You and your pretty nails have no idea what is involved with being a Marine.Things like the Marine honor code is just something that would get in the way of your hair appointment.
When you join the Marines will go through and endurance and strength building up that is painful to the body and terrorizing to the mind.
To endure this and master all the methods of engaging in a fight is a challenge enough. But you are taught the marine code. You will have to learn that deep in your soul you will never leave your fellow Marines around. You will never leave them behind in battle and they will do the same for you. They will behave by the marine code while at work, and any time it might compromise the Marine code honor.
These are things that you and your make up kit would not be able to comprehend. The deepest thought you ever had was from the insertion of a tampon. Don't mind your pretty head about this and try to make sure you are invited to all the nice parties this weekend.
Leave the understanding of this to men of honor, and maybe you can marry a millionaire if you are a good girl.

Ashley,
To answer your question I need to ask you a few. You don't have to answer, just think about them.
1. Are you willing to give up three months of your life to lose sleep, be physically challenged as never before, learn what mental discipline truly means, find out if you are a quitter (Don't worry, the crucible takes care of that.), learn what kind of person you truly are and what you can "really" do when tasked?
2. Do you want to stand out from everyone? Marines do, you know. It's not just our uniforms, it's our attitude-confidence-how we conduct ourselves.
3. Are you willing to commit three or four years of your life to serve your country?
4. Are you self-centered? (If so, don't apply.) We take care of our own.
5. How do you feel about being in a combat zone? You will fill a roll in a cz after boot camp and secondary school. That means mortars, mg fire, snipers, etc.... Even as a WM.
6. Wouldn't you really rather go to a shorter less intense boot camp?
Hope this helps and you were sincere.
Gunny
BTW- Courages is spelled courageous. Try using spell check.

there is nothing courageous about joining boot camp with the marines. you join the marines and go to boot camp as part of the training. the courageous part is stepping up to the plate and join the marines or any other branch of the military. it is courageous because you are volunteering to do a job that few people would ever do.one that in some cases requires the ultimate sacrifice. working at the local factory does not require that of you.

Son you're either an idiot or a complete fool! If you have to ask the question you are not ! Marine Corps material ! I doubt that you'd make it through basic. If you do go in, you'd better give your soul to God because the Corps will own your as_!
It's no cake walk and certainly not for anyone but, if you have what it takes jump off and become a Marine if you can/

I agree with G-man But as we say in the Marines "the more you sweat, the less you bleed" "No guts no Glory" And come graduation day nothing can match the pride you feel having made and passed the test of "The Few, The Proud, The Marines." Semper Fi and good luck to you

Ashley, since you are 20 and most likely fit enough give it a shot. There is nothing like jumping into the original forum of being voted off the Island.
I only survived the Army's version of hell.
Might do ya a lot of good.

Everyone is giving Ashley a lot of crap. You should all be ashamed. It is easy to tell from her spelling in her question that she would never pass the ASVAB test.
So everyone needs to lay off the special ed students.
