I have an old friend currently in the USCG. I looked him up on a social networking site and found his page. It says he's unable to visit his page often, so I've yet to receive a response to my messages.

I'm curious. I always thought that the USCG dealt solely with domestic waters rather than venture into international waters, much less international land. Yet, on his webpage he has hosted photos of himself along with other USCG servicemen in Africa and Portugal. Does this happen often? Are there USCG personnel in Iraq or Afghanistan also?

Thanks in advance, all!

Any military wives out there? Or anyone who has gone through ROTC, or anyone who is even in the military?
I'd like to know how much free time is actually given what with Ranger Challenge, Airborne camp, Air Assault, etc...
I'd also like to know what the life of an Army Wife actually intails..treatment, lifestyle, happiness, etc.

Thanks so much.

...I'd be demoted. I haven't actually been counseled on the SB yet. I got in trouble again this morning -- here's my question. If my squad leader counsels me on this before I'm counseled on the SB, can they still use that against me /after/ I'm counseled on the SB to demote me?

My husband is deployed and during his deployment was injured resulting in 3 herniated disks in his back and nerve damage on his leg. The military is having him go through physical therapy over seas at a base close to his fob. The pt has not helped at all and now they chose to do a spinal block on him. They said it will take the pain away from what he is feeling until he can be home and see about possible surgery etc. My hubby emailed me and said they did the spinal, he's okay but he has not noticed any difference in the pain or anything at all. He said the procedure itself hurt very, very bad and he also did say it can take a few days. Is all this normal procedure for the Army? Should they have even done that to him? Why isnt he feeling any pain relief yet? Why havent they sent him back home for surgery if they are saying he is going to need it? Does this sound strange or what!!

Much has been written about the prowess of the German military under Hitler, which plowed across Europe on 2 fronts. They were also technologically and tactically advanced for their time. How does the modern German military stack up against its predecessor?

While women have been engaged in combat throughout history, should we as a nation purposefully put them in such a position? In recent history, the only nations that seem to have purposefully trained women for frontline combat were communist (Soviet Union, Vietnam, Nepal, etc) or socialist (Denmark, Finland, France, etc.). Technology increasingly makes the physical factor obsolete to the point where theoretically even underage children could perform combat duties. While women have shown themselves to be capable in many instances, is it morally and ethically right for our society and our nation?

Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo believes that threatening Muslim extremists with the possibility of bombings on holy sites such as Mecca and Medina would provide a successful “deterrent” for future terrorist attacks against the United States.

Do you agree or disagree?

Did we really fund iraq with money, weapons, and biological agents to aid Saddam against Iran. And when that failed we took out Saddam and invaded only to secure a permanent position in the mideast...since Saudi Arabia wouldn't tolerate our military presence in their borders. Is this true...and now we are pouring our funds into defense...taking funds from needed american families...all for the benefit of large corporations. Soon our own infrastructure will implode...our nation will be no different then pakistan or afghanistan...or any of the many 3rd world nations. How long will this take...how long before Americans wake up. We are doing a great dis-service to the world and even greater a dis-service to ourselves by not standing up to the unchecked forces in our society. We are bleeding ourselves dry...so that the spirit of capitalism may flourish in a different, more "Worldly" state.

Folks still don't believe in the Hung Nam, North Korean blast a few days after Hiroshima. The scientists in that Japanese colony had not yet heard of our first bombing when they set their more powerful (but box-car sized) weapon off aboard a boat a few miles from shore. Their plan of loading it into a sub and detonating it either under our invasion fleet or San Fransisco Bay would have really changed things. The Russians snatched the scientists and equipment, leading to the development of their own nuclear program. Could we have beat them on their own shores while they were setting off nukes on ours?

My grandfather passed away about 5 years ago. He was in WWII as a military officer (SP) and he had the standard issued .45.

After he returned from Japan, his brother's wife's family took it. My grandfather never knew about this up until a few years before he died. Is there anyway to find out the serial number of the weapon so I could try to find who has it now?

If not, is there any way to try to find it?

Let me explain the question a little more. My friends and I were talking about .50 cals and we got to the topic of the wounds they caused. We know what it can do with a hit, but we weren't sure on what would happen with a close miss. One guy says it can take your arm off with even a miss. Another wants proof, but I can't find any online. Any help would be greatly appreciated, mainly because it would shut him up.

Hmmmm. I have lived in America all my life and I love this country dearly. I love the freedom, rights, and opportunity we have here. We, as the American people however have allowed our country to become the most violent country in the world though. Love the country but not the violence.

If we were ever invaded, what would you do? I know a majority of Americans keep guns. Out of curiousity do any of you have a gun in your house just in case or just because?

If we were ever invaded, I think that the American people may do more damage to the opposing country rather them to us. We Americans can fight lol.

What do you think?

We were married for 6 years, then legally seperated. I filed for divorce, which took another 6 years. All this happened over the span of 12 years, while I was in the Army. I live in Los Angeles, California. She is suing me in a CA court, through a local attorney, from Ohio. Nobody seems to know what to do with the case, who has jurisdiction, how to calculate percentage, and the attorney fees are mounting. I served my country with honor, and she chose not to work when we were together. I deserve better than this.
