Did we really fund iraq with money, weapons, and biological agents to aid Saddam against Iran. And when that failed we took out Saddam and invaded only to secure a permanent position in the mideast...since Saudi Arabia wouldn't tolerate our military presence in their borders. Is this true...and now we are pouring our funds into defense...taking funds from needed american families...all for the benefit of large corporations. Soon our own infrastructure will implode...our nation will be no different then pakistan or afghanistan...or any of the many 3rd world nations. How long will this take...how long before Americans wake up. We are doing a great dis-service to the world and even greater a dis-service to ourselves by not standing up to the unchecked forces in our society. We are bleeding ourselves dry...so that the spirit of capitalism may flourish in a different, more "Worldly" state.

Actually - no.

We never sold any weapons to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. (Ever notice how the people who keep claiming we sold him weapons cannot provide any specific examples?)

There were a few banks that (illegally) lent money to Saddam. The people who did this were arrested and prosecuted.

The US is the world's major supplier of viral agents for vaccine research and production. We ship samples of germs and viruses all over the world so country's can produce vaccines. (In the early 1980's Iraq had an anthrax outbreak among its farm animals - as per of US policy to share medical technology we supplied anthrax samples to Iraq because they claimed to need them for vaccine production.)

BTW a good way to recognize that somebody is clueless is if they claim that the US gave money to Bin Laden or that the US supported the Taliban. Saying this does nothing but demonstrate an ignorance of history.

I doubt what any of us say will change your mind about your statements but here is the truth. Yes we did help Saddam because thanks to President Jimmy Carter Iran was a bigger enemy of ours at the time. (Probably still are!) Yes we did help the Taliban so they could keep the Russians out of Afghanistan. We have made some mistakes and when I say we I mean our country's leaders. Nobody is perfect and most of us arent willing to be president and deal with these things. The best thing we can do is vote and try to get the right people in office. However your statements about us being like a third world country are a little paranoid. We are the greatest nation in the world and will remain that way if we dont lose our identity as a nation.

We did support Iraq at one time, but not for the sake of instability. They were fighting Iran, and we were pretty pissed about the hostage crisis in '79 / '80, so our enemy's enemy became our friend (or at least the recipient of our handouts)

We did the same thing in Afghanistan. They were fighting the Soviets, and we helped. They got mad when we stopped giving them supplies and money after the Soviets pulled out. They realized we were using them to try to embarrass the Soviets.

We have made some bad decisions about the governments we chose to back at times. Hopefully, people pay attention to history and try to avoid making the same mistakes!

I only read part of the question but I see where this is going.

The US fund and trained Osama and people like him to fight against communism. Now think about this, there was no possible way of knowing they would turn on us after they kicked out the commies in the Middle East. And which would you rather have today, a Middle East full of stupid ragtag AK-47 wanna be soldeirs? Or a Nuclear expansion of the Soviett Union?

Saddam was the same basic idea, but w/ Iran instead of Communist.

i think of that's the form of concern that the infamous Rev. Wright became ranting approximately in his sermons. in case you pay attention to the entire sermon, he comments on issues like how we funded Bin weighted down, left him putting and now Bin weighted down is out for revenge in any respect expenses. lower back, he soured his message to a pair quantity by means of creating an extremely politically charged statements with some un American sentiment yet he became perfect while he pronounced that the failings we've finished and our regulations international extensive, fairly in the middle east is coming lower back to hang-out us.
