your 'friend' is an idiot. and you are entirely too gullible.
the military is all volunteer, you will not be forced to enlist. if you don't want to be there, the military doesn't want you.

It is a volunteer Military...so if you want to be part of it join. If you dont want to go, dont join...it is really simple. Take a look around you....there are many 18 year olds that are not in Iraq or Afghanistan. Go to the grocery store, the mall, or just turn on the TV. Your friend is probably talking about the Selective Service....everyone has answered that one already.

It is very very improbable there will ever be a draft again in the US; some extreme circumstances would had to have transpired for that to happen. Now, as a male, when you turn 18 years of age, you must by law register with the Selective Service. This does not mean you want to join up, it only means, if those aforementioned extreme circumstances happen, you're on the list of potential draftees. Our military is currently still 100% voluntary.
It's good that you are aware of world events, but right now the only thing you should concern yourself with is doing good in school and just being a teenager. Have fun.

In the United States, our military is strictly volunteer, however, if you would enlist, there is always the possibility of going to Iraq, that is what you signed up for after all. However the only mandatory thing you have to do is register with selective service, which is just in case we would have to use the draft again, which is slim to no chance, and slim just left.
Some countries do require a military enlistment, such as Germany, but here we are strong because those in the military went in of and by their own free will. That is what keeps us strong.

Do you believe everything you hear? The only military related thing you are required to do at 18 is register with the Selective Service. It is the law. There will not be a draft so when you turn 18 just register and rest easy.

As a father of 3 boys under 13, I am very concerned by what I see in the news. Generals are projecting us to still be in Iraq for 10 more years, and we are not getting the replacements we need by volunteerism.
I have great respect for our troops, and I know many will stay in the uniform until the job is done. But it's not fair to them to send them out for a 1 year deployment and then extend it because thre's no replacements.
Those opposed to the war in congress are most likely the ones who will start the ball rolling on the draft. They will think that by having a draft, this will cause people to rise up and call for war to end. Unfortunately we will all be too busy worrying about hotel heiresses in prison or other crap, so the draft will start.
Don't be depressed about this... the chance that you personally will be picked is slim.

Are you serious? Look, when you turn 18 you are required to sign up for selected Service. At this point in time you are free to do as you want. You ae not required to join the military at all because many brave men and women are serving and giving you that choice. Do as you want, respect those that serve.

You have to enlist to join the military. When you turn 18 you have to sign a piece of paper incase a draft ever happened. Don't worry though, there is no way a draft would happen. It would not only be political suicide but there would be a revolt.

The American military is an all-volunteer force. That means that you can join if you want, but you are not forced into it. There is no draft, every member of the American military joined on their own free will.

seriously, tell who ever told you that to go suck a fat one. The reason our military is the best in the world is because WE are a VOLUNTEER force. WE dont want to fight along side people who dont want to fight.
There is no draft and no danger of a draft because forcing people into the military would destroy our military efficiency.
EVERYONE who is in Iraq has VOLUNTEERED to go there.
We ALL volunteered.
