You will not have to go thru navy basic, only enlisted have to.
Most officers go to OCS.
But Staff Officers like lawyers, doctors, chaplins etc,
Go through a short version of OCS that last 5 weeks.
And of course, you would have to pass the annual physical fitness test like all other members of the military.

As a former sailor I can tell you the answer is Yes. Doctors and Lawyers are sailors first. When they are assigned to a ship, they must be ready, just like anyone else to fight fires, control flooding and rescue others. Furthermore, They may be assigned to Marine Corps. (Marines are part of Navy and rely on Navy Chaplins, medics, Doctors, Dentists and other medical staff). If assigned to such as unit, you will be required to keep up with them on the battlefield. The PT Standards are based on age, not job, unless you are assigned to some specific specialty (SEALS, Aviation, Submarine, Diver), in those cases, the physical testing and PT standards will be even higher. Before you ask, yes Navy Docs are assigned in those specialties. I would also warn you that if you watch JAG, That is NOT REALITY!!!

Ok, as a Doc, or an attorney you'll get a direct commission, so you'll never have to do basic training or ocs, like a few of these other guys said you'd have to do. But you'll still have the same physical requirements of every other sailor, as far as PT tests and height/weight requrements.

What? Do you think you are better than everyone else by serving in one of those professions? Since you are going to be an attorney, lets hear legal arguments that would make attorneys/Docs exempt from the same standards that everyone in the Navy must adhere to.

absolutely the physical requirements are the same for ALL members of the Navy, Officer and Enlisted alike, Staff and Line.
Oh yeah, and BTW.. they have just toughened the requirements to stay in, and are being more anal about kicking people out who fail 3 in 4 years.

I'm pretty sure you still have to pass a basic training 6 week course at some point. I don't know if they will relax the physical standard for you.
