Why is it that we seem doomed to forever repeat the mistakes of the past in a cyclical fashion?
With the hideous wars and genocides of the 20th century behind us, and images such as the Napalm girl or Hiroshima forever burned into our minds, I am astonished that the leaders of the world continue their war-mongering.
There are still war veterans around today to remind us that in war, no-one wins - but there are between 15 and 20 wars raging in the world at the moment. With dramatically rising populations and deadlier and deadlier weapons being invented all the time, are we doomed to blow ourselves up?

The guy being killed led to WW1 which led to WW2. That created a whole lot of separatists movements and also led to Korea and vietnam wars and so on.
Am I looking at this a little simply or do you think the 1900's would have been alot more peaceful if Archduke Franz Ferdinand was not killed in 1914??

Just curious to what would happened if things for some reason went sour between us and them. Please try not to insult other members of political parties ridicule, or blame them, that is not what this question asks.

I cannot work due to service connected injuires for over a year now and also per a dr's advice that if I continue to work I will be paralysed. I have claims in with the VA which takes years and I have applied for SSI and SSDI. I have an attorney to work my case for SSA but the attorney states they need more medical evidence to win my case. The problem is the Veterans Administration is making me wait 3 or more months for medical appointments. My wife works and Social Services says she makes too much money at $2000.00 gross per month. So I cannot get medicaid. But if it takes months for appointments at the VA I will not have much medical evidence. My wife and I cannot afford her jobs medical insurance. Anyone know of how I might be able to get medical treatment for evidence besides the VA or Social Services?

I got awarded with home town recruiting and on my orders it says that i am to report to my local recruiting station. I live in oklahoma city and there are many local recruiting offices, but the recruiter i went through lives in arkansas which is a few hundred miles away. I just wanted to see what everyone thinks before i bring it to my drill sergeant. thanks.

Infantry are largely unprotected from hostility (as I understand it- feel free to correct me) and, even if hiding behind/ in cover, there's always the chance of a stray grenade or bullet- surely in a built-up environment they're still overlooked by windows and alleyways?

HOWEVER I would think that infantry is far more flexible- they can disappear, hide, split up, regroup etc etc.

A tank, on the other hand, is protected from nearly all small arms fire and, as far as I understand, has nothing to fear from gunfire or even smaller explosives. However, a tank is less likely to be able to hide or run away, and is extremely vulnerable to air attack.

Have I got this right? I'd appreciate some input. Thanks

At almost every other point in history it was necessary to have to fight for our lives, whether it be to protect ourselves from criminals, or to fight others in wars.

With ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the military is stretched pretty thin. Conflicts could be on the horizon with North Korea and Iran. Cold war talk from Russia and the Middle East is ready to explode, if it hasn't already. Some European countries have a two military service requirement after high school, but because of liberals and the ACLU, that won't happen here. Is a draft the only way to strengthen the miltary?

I want to get a degree in nursing from a university.
I think if you join the army as a student nurse you do a degree or diploma at university.
I don't know whether to join as a student nurse or become a nurse first and then join as a qualified nurse, does anybody have any advice on which would be the better path?
