Ting o'l boy the Taliban for the last 20 years has been the leading opium producing organization in the world. when you buy "H" your giving your money to osama.
by burning the fields you eliminate the cash and reduce further addict here. besides those Afghan peasants can't eat "H" it's better to teach them how to grow enough crops to feed themselves and have supply for winter months.
besides it also gives the farmers a since of pride and community spirit which the Taliban has tried to suppress.

Grow your own, the seeds are legal to purchase. Just don't let anyone see you growing them. The poppys in Afghanistan are responsible for much of the worlds drug trade in heroin and morphine plus it gives Insurgents billions of dollars in revenue to fight Nato.
