They are ribbons sweetie. They are indicative of the accomplishments the solider has achieved. Orangizations, honors, and achievements........ the more they have, the more they've accomplished! Be proud of them! Soldiers keep us safe!

Depends entirely on which branch of the military, and which uniform for that branch, and where on that specific uniform you're talking about--as well as a better description of the "rectangle things" in question.

Which ones. They could be many things as some patches, especially armored Divisions, patches are a triangle!
