I went to my local recruiter today and took an online practice asvab and scored a 60. Does anyone know if this is acceptable for a masters at arms job?

Just keep in mind that the higher the score the better off you are you have a little more control over what job you get and just not what they want to give you.

A 60 is a little low for the asvab. When I took it 6 years ago the average was 72. Keep trying and learning. I`m not what the score for the Master of arms rating requires but I do think that it is more than the average score.

The number 60 is your QT score. The national average is 50 so anything above that implies that you are above average...well done. However, this is not the score that determines which jobs you are qualified for. What you have to look at is your individual "line scores". Your recruiter should be able to get these for you.

With these in hand goto the link below and check out Master at Arms ( about half way down the page ).

Good luck :-)

The overall score on your asvab is not the deciding factor. You need to know the scores you have in certian areas. They revamped the test and requirements since i Cross rated to Master-at- Arms so i do not know the current requirements.

If you have questions about MA give an e-mail

I scored a 98, BUT I was SLIGHTLY color blind which means alot in the Navy. This was back in 1987, but the color of lights hasn't changed. I do not think your score will be a problem being a MA. Here is a hint, stand your ground and demand your rate, no matter what. They will act like car salesman and give in. I was you luck, and if things go thru, you will have fun being in the BEST branch of the military.

one, people typically score ten points(in either direction) differently on the real ASVAB

Secondly.. the raw score isn't what matters, it's the line scores that determine what ypou are eligible for.

Three: MA is filling up and it is actually getting tougher to grab a slot in Active duty. Reserves is wide open though.

Your recruiter will be able to tell you if you have a good enough score in the right areas of the test to qualify for you for your desired rate.

Yes.... MA are like the police force on-board ship, it does not take a high score to qualify
