Depends on how you want to look at it.

Militarily no, China is too smart for that and wouldn't want to go head to head in a fight......they know they would lose and more importantly, it would put china back by decades.

Economically is the threat, ------- or is it? China plans and it was by planning that they are now Wal-Marting the world. If suddenly we stopped all trade with China, while it would hurt China, they would do fine considering that China has many trading partners. Where the danger lies is our lack of planning. China has five year plans that are reviewed and changed yearly. We don't plan, we just muddle along which worked fine for years. But now in a very competitive world, we need to look at our future, and more importantly, our children's future.

But, while the rest of the world is slowly catching up to the American dream, we are slowly undoing ourselves through our divisive politics. Where the issues that we find most important are things like flag burning, abortion and prayer in school while we fetter away our future.

The biggest thing we have on the block right now for our future is immigration ---------- BIG DEAL!! While it can have an affect on jobs, public service, etc, they are not nearly the drain that so many think. Percentage wise, its a drop in the bucket. I believe that is used to take the focus off our real problems.

We have much bigger fish to think about, like our lack of manufacturing, high wages where that helps prevent competition, war, forcing democracy on others, our semi imperialistic nature, our eroding of our civil rights, and one of the biggest things is coming to the realization of why so many hate us -- not Americans, but our government and military.

By all rights, in 50 years we'll be a second rate economy with a second rate standard of living.

We need to start asking and answering the hard questions that we have put off for decades. Sadly, we'll continue to muddle along losing market share to what is left is what we once were -- free. Freedom from want, freedom from fear, freedom to speak out and say -- NO MORE!

Historical Facts: Nations have Learned Zero...

Think logically Mr Spock: IF things did turn sour and the below nations United... they have access to our food supplies and the health foods like vitamins> Their manpower is about 12:1>they have the technological know how AND they are the major suppliers of those parts to the U.S aside from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other Asian nations. The American born Japanese that entered the US legally were incarcerated in California...same as with others from enemy Combatant countries. A word to the wise about Illegal Immigration

The same thing occured during WW2 with Steel supplies, nylon and other things that would keep our armies and navies supplied. Women had to work in the factories and proved they ould get the job done that previously had been occupied by men. Silk was suspended and gave way to sythetic clothing, makeup andy nylon replaced hosiery for women.

There is a very high price for always wanting things Cheaper...they are currently creating their own Monster with the awakening Dragon....

Democrat here.
Thank you for the addition about polite behavior. I see my fellow citizens when they post, republican or democrat. There are a lot of patriots here that know how to disagree, dissent, even protest without being seditious or rude, and without undermining our country or treating the other side of the aisle as crazy or bad or as the enemy. Silly behavior.

China is in competition. As long as we compete in different areas, we are not in conflict. Some may wonder why we don't deliberately outdo China in all areas. Is that what you want, folks? To force a nuclear nation into economic ruin in order to "be the best at everything"?

There are reasons we do what most people consider "foolish things" in our foreign policy. We could probably turn China into a third-world nation if we focussed on it, but it wouldn't be wise.

Wars occur when there is a conflict over limited resources. China, of course, has every reason to look after their own interests.

Me? I'm an American. I side with the United States.

They have a huge number of citizens, constantly training in martial arts. They are pursuing nuclear options, but are also becoming more capitalist.

Mostly they are threatened by our free speech. It is illegal to refer to or talk about Tianmen Square in China. The ideas we spread throughout the world are very threatening to the status quo in China (and Islamic countries as well), just as it was in the late U.S.S.R.

If things went bad, they would start attacking neighbors, build their strength, launch everything at the far end of the United States and attack the near end. A simultaneous computer assault would also begin, and massive troop movements. Sleepers in various cities would be activated with the goal of destroying specific targets.

We have plans to cover just about anything China does. We even have plans to attack them (heck, we have plans to attack Canada, and Canada has battle plans to attack us - it's called being prepared for all contigencies). We won't, of course. Neither, in all likelihood, will China.

They are, however, trying desperately to get us to become more socialist, particularly our medical system (the efforts in our public school system are crumbling and not an effective battle front anymore).

If things went south with China, and pray to the God you believe in that they don't, we would be in trouble, especially now. Our forces are spread way to thin in the current war, we have a huge economic debt with China, they manufacture a good percentage of out goods cheaply, they have and outlandishly large army and oh by the way, they have just developed a satellite shooting laser. To date they have only used it on their own satellites but could just as easily target ours if the situation were right. Without our technological advantage, we would have a very difficult time competing in a war with the Chinese

China poses an economic threat in the sense that, once they put their minds to it, they can accomplish just about anything.

China does not pose a military threat except to those with aggressive intents upon whatever they consider theirs.

They pose a threat to our economy if they decide to dump the dollar. they are growing militarily and have a massive army, although i don't see them as a military threat.

Yes, economically and militarily.
They hold an enormous amount of U.S. government debt. They could inflict heavy, even devastating, damage to our economy tomorrow if it was in their interest.

We would lose a conventional war with China.
