Military - April 2007

He is young and believes he is doing his country good service,
how can I look at him and encourage him on when I do not believe we should stay in the middle of a civil war? When I believe the will of the people shows it should stop and Our President is not listening? How do I hide my fear of his being returned to me in pieces and for what ? A Country that is hell bent on killing all its citizens? What do I tell him the day he leaves?

I mean it's the same thing. Crazy gun toteing people from the country next door will fund a civil war and kill all the intelectuals and people that supported us. We didn't know this would happen in 'Nam for sure but now we know it this time because history repeats itself. Can we live with the blood of so many intentionaly soaking our hands so we can save our few brave soldiers? Speaking of them what do you think they feel about this? Do you think they want to run away at let all these people die?

Why do people still think other countries military's (such as China) are stronger? I don't see how people can still deny that the USA has the strongest military in the world. Lots of troops, the best technology, air force, navy, special forces, equipment, great training, etc.

The Army might not be the best trained in the world, but they are no slouch. And the marines and special forces such as the green beret and navy seals are top notch as far as how well trained they are.. they are killing machines.

Has nobody heard of former green berets who cannot be spooked even by their own kids? Even years after they fight, when they are living at home, you cannot sneak up behind them and scare them to play a joke on them, because they will instinctly kill you without thinking. That is crazy.

The US military is no joke..

Source: Once again I saw a decal/magnet on a car saying "I support the troops". (AND) Once again I ask the owner of the vehicle to send his son or daughter to the Marines or Army to fight in Iraq. They....... ( Driver of about age 46) looks as if he just sucked a lemon and looks at me with disgust. Why? I'm just wanting him to really support the troops. ( This happened at the Big Boy restaurant near Selfridge Air Base.) Most reply like this: "I support the troops as long as other people lose their family members".

How can anybody in their right mind still support this war?
On what grounds?
No WMDs.
No "nukcular" program.
No involvement with 9/11.
No involvement in any other terrorism.
Half a trillion $$ wasted.
650,000 dead.
Millions maimed displaced orphaned etc.

And for what?

All for nothing.
Even if you win (which you cannot) you win nothing.

Bush has set benchmarks for the Iraqi government, but has steadfastly opposed attaching any timeframe to them or any actions if they are not met.

So basically if Iraq doesn't reach the goals then we just stay forever? I thought the whole point of staying is for Iraq to take over but if the US can not quell the violence of the civil war then the troops are going to be there forever doomed to possibly die trying to protect a failing government set up by George and Tricky dick Cheney. What a way to try to win a war, lets not have an exit strategy but instead just keep dumping money into a flawed war where the enemy is faceless.

The kyoto accords do not incluce China and other developing nations, however at some point if the man made global warming crowd is correct and globalwarming is the problem they say it is would it be prudent to us the force of the US military to bring the world into compliance with international enviromental agreements even if it means nuking China for their disregard of carbon emmisions

I believe they went into Iraq with good faith at the time due to the 9/11 attack. However, no WMD's were discovered but we did unseat a tyrant and then.... There was no upfront homework done and they listened to a shrewd Shi'a character paint a rosy picture of our welcome which never transpired. We cannot change the current situation without hundreds of thousands of troops and it is not going to happen so, let's save our Billions

The outcome, although we got right through to Bahgdad, has been a disaster and Bush should concede and use all this hue and cry to get out -- why won't he?
