By having these bases we create fear in other countries who, in return, hate us!

Excellent point. And in addition to that, we spend 51% of our tax dollar on the military. If we don't recognize that and make an adjustment, we will go the way of Rome.

We have bases all over the world so that the Military can respond in a hurry if needed. It also makes better relationships with other countries because it gives them the security that were there for them as well.
I'm not sure why you think were creating fear by being in these other countries. Not only does our Military bring them security, but it also brings civilian jobs to the areas where our bases are. Any Military base my husband has been assigned to overseas and we have lived, there has been nothing but support from the majority of the local community. Just like in the States, it's usually just a small amount people who are protesting against the US Military. We're stationed overseas now and we receive nothing but hospitality for the locals. The US Government has brought over ten thousand jobs to the people in this community.

Many of the bases are left behind after we conquer that country, as a kind of deterrent. Some of those nations we are now friendly with (Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan), with others its a little dicey (S. Korea has been known to hold protests about out military presence there). All in all, i think America keeps bases everywhere because its in our own best interest to have that flexibility, and well as showing any potential trouble makers our proximity. Feels a little like colonization to me!

Well if I recall right. The bases outside of the US are there to give the military a better chance of responding in the most effective way. If we have to wait for a day to start to move troops into a hot spot then it will cost move lives to get a foot hold going.

News flash: Everyone seems to envy and hate the rich. Guess what.....America is the richest nation in the world. Military bases do not materially affect the level of animosity the rest of the world holds towards us.

The U.S. Military has many bases around the world (as well as in the U.S.) because of logistics (i.e. beans and Ammo and parts) to move anywhere in the world as needed. They are also jumping off spots for Any Altercation that might arise. Most Countries allow U.S. Forces because it helps their Economy.

most international bases are in countries of our allies........some have to be there, like japan for instance was part of the treaty after WW2....also better mobility of troops if they are all over the world.

Your answer is in your question and if they hate us enough we can conquer them and add them to the Imperialistic Empire.

It's important for Conservatives to give off the image that they're the meanest f*cks on the planet, otherwise they can't get it up--and i'm not talking flagpoles.
