I have made up my mind, I want to join the marines. I have looked at every field and have thought about this for well over a year. everyone I know does not want me to enlist but I cant sit back and let others do the fighting because they are afraid.
heres the problem, I promised my folks I would wait until I was 21 but too much is going on to keep that promise. First off I want to me a marine, second I have no job, got fired for well cant say they might know me if I say why, and lastly I want to be infantry. my gf and parents freak out every time I even mention it my brother who is currently serving wants me to join but only as an officer. I would rather be a mustang officer, learn to take orders than dish them out only after gaining experience in the field. I understand they care about me but I support the war, I think it is time to put up or shut up. any advice

The War For Your Mind

You may not realize it, but in addition to the wars in Afghanistan and
Iraq, there is another war being waged by radical Islamists -- a war for
Your mind that would make Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels proud.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the good folks at the Middle East
Media Research Institute (MEMRI), this subversive campaign was recently
Exposed. Nevertheless, it continues and the damage is almost impossible to
Estimate.

The effort involves a “media jihad” of Islamists overseas using the
Internet to undermine American morale and support for the war. MEMRI has
Discovered talking points and action items on Islamist websites directing
Their followers to infiltrate American Internet forums and chat rooms with
False propaganda.

Just consider some of these excerpts:

-- “There is no doubt, my brothers, that raiding American forums is among
The most important means of obtaining victory in the fierce media war...
And of influencing the views of the weak-minded American …This American is
An idiot and does not [even] know where Iraq is…”

-- “Obviously, you should post your contribution... As an American... You
Should invent stories about American soldiers you have [allegedly]
Personally known (as classmates... Or members in a club who played baseball
And tennis with you) who were drafted to Iraq and then committed suicide
While in service by hanging or shooting themselves...”

-- “Also, write using a sad tone, and tell them that you feel sorry for
Your [female] neighbor or co-worker who became addicted to alcohol or
Drugs... Because her poor fiancee, a former soldier in Iraq, was paralyzed
Or [because] his legs were amputated... [Use any story] which will break
Their spirits...”

-- “Your concern should [only] be introducing topics which... Will cause
[them to feel] frustration and anger towards their government..., which
Will... Render them hostile to Bush... And make them feel they must vote to
Bring the troops back from Iraq as soon as possible.”

It is clear from these detailed instructions that our enemy understands the
Power of the media, and learned well a key lesson of Vietnam – America did
Not lose on the battlefield; it lost on the home front.

But if the last American retreats from Iraq in a helicopter from the
Rooftop of our embassy in the Green Zone, the jihadists won't be satisfied.
They will be emboldened, and from their new safe haven in the heart of the
Middle East, they will renew their strikes on America with increased
Ferocity.

Unfortunately, that is something the “cut and run” caucus in Congress
Evidently does not comprehend. If it did, it would not be insisting on
Timetables for “phased redeployments,” telling our enemies that America no
Longer possesses the resolve to “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any
Hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the
Survival and the success of liberty.”

I am old enough to remember Vietnaum and the effects it had on some of my family members. I am a liberal Republican, but I am ashamed of Bush right now for letting this thing go on like it has. Why? Let those people battle it out for themselve, looks like they hate each other more then they hate us.
What do you all think?

Should the US be spending so much money on all the toys we are using in the middle east like ships, tanks, jets and all the other fancy and high quality weapons and such while the Iriqis and Insurgents are only using AK-47s and RPGs. I really dont think we need to throw everything we have at them, its not like we are fighting Germany or China. But then again these guys are running out there with bombs strapped to their chests thinking they will recieve something nice for killing an innocent.

And people that go around saying "Support are troups? bring them home" Tell me how is that supporting them? If you were out in war and and people were saying COME HOME COME Home, how does that make them feel about wanting to fight? does it encourage them. nope.

We have Veterans with PTSD living homeless, committing suicide, being turned down for help and told it's "not war related" even after they have served a tour, two tours or perhaps they are on their 3rd or 4th.

Is it time for the TRUE patriots to receive at least what an illegal and criminal person in this country has been given?

After the US who will be the next super power? The US just like every other super power there was cant hold that position especially with all thats going on. I believe the US is trying to police the world and thats just like trying to go into every rough and dangerous bar in the city and trying to break up every bar fight, you just cant do it. But my vote goes to China Because while the US is wasting in Iraq China is still getting trade and all this money and are putting 1 nuclear sub in the water every 8 months I believe. And is also getting trade from one of the top weapons manufacturing countrys in the world which is Russia. And not to put 2 questions into one but do you think it is necessary for the US to be throwing all the toys the US has such as
tanks, ships, jets, humvees, and you get the idea at the Iraqis who just have AK-47s and RPGs? So what do you think?

A Senate committee approved a $122 billion measure Thursday financing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but also defying President Bush by calling on him to pull combat troops out of Iraq by next spring.

The bill, approved by a voice vote, is similar to one the House began debating Thursday. Both measures have drawn veto threats from the White House, which has said Congress must allow more time for the U.S. troop increase in Iraq to work.

Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee had hoped to delete the withdrawal language. But facing likely defeat, they decided to postpone that effort until the full Senate takes up the spending measure, as early as Monday. The Iraq war is on it's way out. The war will be over and the troops will come home.
